Lots on Johnson. Washington had an in home then off to USC this weekend. But I remain very hopeful. Her coach said if admitted it would be Stanford. This was early August. Well step 1 complete. Â

Quote:Central Catholics Rick Lorenz has a problem any volleyball coach in the state would envy. Hes having trouble getting his full team together for practice because the early season has been filled with campus visits as his players decide where their future will take them. Kailee Johnson, a 6-foot-3 middle and basketball star, is making the Pac-12 tour, spending last week at USC and Stanford. Immediately after Thursdays sweep over rival Gresham, she was off on a two-hour drive to Eugene to visit the Ducks.

Keil Moore reports she wil visit Washington, and the UCLA site notes she vited them along with Erica McCall. Those two must know each other pretty well now, if they did not already.Â

In short, Kailee is visiting almost every west coast Pac-12 school. One of her coaches did say she probably would choose Stanford if she got in, but she is spending so much time evaluating all the other schools that I wonder if she is worried about admission. However, at one point she was interested in Harvard and Princeton along with Cal, Washington, Stanford, Oregon, and UCLA. The fact that she was interested in the Ivies would lead me to believe that she is academically inclined and hopefully will be a good fit for Stanford.

81 please do not worry about admissions any more. That is not a concern anymore. ;D
Moving on hard to believe Kailee would turn down Stanford. But I too hate how it all drags on.Â

With Kailee coming to Stanford, attention now just remains to find out where Erica McCall will head.
Erica was just in Spain where she won gold for the USA in the FIBA 3x3 U18 competition.
According to the UConn board, UConn had assistant Marissa Mosely there "watching her." They also report that Stanford had an assistant there. They did not say who.
Now it is perfectly obvious that neither Connecticut nor Stanford really need to "watch" her any more to know they would like to recruit her. I presume the assistants were dispatched to "show the flag" and let her know that each school still very much wants her. Both schools must feel this is a very close decision and neither has given up--even if it means sending a coach to Spain as a symbolic gesture.

Kate Paye's been tweeting the results of that contest, so maybe it's her.

Erica McCall is visiting Connecticut this weekend and attended their big bash last night. She was one of two recruits who visited. The other, Saniya Chong, just committed to Connecticut this morning. Jim Fuller, who does a UConn wbb blog, says "Erica McCall is also on an official visit but since it is just her second official campus visit, I'd be surprised if a commitment is coming from her this weekend."Â
At one point Erica's dad said they would announce shortly after the UConn visit, but then I read somewhere else that they later decided to announce it in early November. I'm not sure if Erica has another visit to somewhere planned in the next couple of weeks or not. And I'm not sure if anyone should read anything in to the timing of her decision. She is not an ordinary recruit, with a Div I head basketball coach as a dad.

Thanks, BobK. A UConn blog reports that McCall's father says she will announce on November 10. I think this is good news. She is clearly being methodical and considering her choices very carefully--so she did not announce after her visit here nor did she announce after her visit to Connecticut.Â

Some of the UConn folks are hoping for the best but are half expecting she will decide on Stanford.Â

Question of the day as posted on Kate Paye's Facebook:
Quote:Question of day in coaches mtg: Has frosh center Tess Picknell improved more in 1 month than any other player in Stanford history?

Thanks for posting Yvonne. This is great news. I saw her play several times Inc Stanford camp after her Jr year. At that time a project and behind Beebe. Of course a project at Stanford doesn't mean she couldn't start at half the PAC 12 schools. But with Beebe out Picknell is very needed.Â
Stanford will have another walk on next year just committed Brianna Roberson from Troy HS. If we get McCall, who says she will announce Nov 10 , that would give us 18 players next season.
Open scrimmage at 5:30 tonight.

Just saw on the Connecticut and UCLA boards links that Briana Roberson, a senior Orange County guard, committed to Stanford a couple of weeks ago. There was a flurry of activity and excitement on those boards since they thought that would mean we used up our last scholarship--meaning that Erica McCall was no longer in our picture. One of them, however, quotes our own BobK that Roberson will walk on and leave the scholarship available.Â
Bob, is that true? And is this a new policy for our program? I don't ever remember so many walk-ons in the past. It seems like we may be recruiting both like an Ivy and also like a Pac12 school--I guess we are that attractive.
