I realize I'm stating the obvious, but here goes. We're dealing with seventeen- and eighteen-year-old kids whose decisions can be influenced by any number of variables (family, girlfriend, weather, distance, etc.) that are beyond the program's control. Also, as has been pointed out, National Signing Day is five months away. During those five months, the Cardinal will play ten more football games, and each is an opportunity to impress these recruits. Last week's win was obviously noticed. Seven or eight more wins? You don't think that might make a difference to some of these guys? Let's say Stanford ends up playing in the Rose Bowl. I'm guessing some of these guys -- assuming they gain admission -- will decide to flip to a school that's played in three straight BCS bowl games.
I don't think there's much to worry about here. Things are looking about as bright as they ever have for Stanford football. It doesn't make sense to worry about clouds that might come. Enjoy the sun.

Parental influence tends to work in Stanford's favor :D

Not that anything we say makes any difference in all of this, but I do find it interesting that there seems to be an overall sentiment for changing Harbaugh's recruiting practices, after all, the Harbaugh approach led to the greatest collection of talent in Stanford Football history. This seems to be the same kind of argument as "Look how much success we have had with the pro-style, power running offense--just imagine how good we would be if we went to the spread!"
I don't disagree with some of the sentiment, it is just always interesting to watch people's desire to tinker with success...

Well, the recruiting aspect does have a bit of an ethical component which doesn't really exist in a discussion of one's offensive scheme.

Apart from the ethical issues, I would also say that different circumstances call for different tactics. I don't work in the tech world, but I can imagine that a scrappy start-up might use different recruiting techniques than Apple or Google.

Not when the parents accept bribes from boosters.

I doubt we are in the running for many of those types of recruits. Turns out even Reggie Bush wasn't really serious about Stanford despite some signs of interest at some point during the process.

well we didn't make CB Cameron Walker's top 5. They're really dropping like flies...

Question: when does Stanford make admissions decisions for athletic recruits? Is it at the same time as other early decision candidates on December 15, or is there some special arrangement?
