I don't know, pretty garden-variety comment about running backs. Would guess coaches--all coaches--would say similar things about 75+% of incoming running backs.

Doesn't mean what you say with the rest isn't true, of course.

Re: Freshmen Report - dabigv13 - 10-26-2012

Yeah I remember hearing the same thing about Wilkerson when he was a frosh as well. Coaches always say that stuff to motivate younger guys to get in the film room, work on the non-sexy parts of their positions, etc.

I suspect if we didn't have so many talented veterans at the position, the coaches would have rolled the dice on Barry J and we'd be hearing about his exciting potential rather than questioning his pass protection.

I don't have a problem w/ comment on Barry - Redrum - 10-26-2012

Think how badly we would suck this year without Taylor.  i mean, forget about the running.  Just imagine what would happen to Nunes if Taylor weren't an extra blocker.  He's now in his fourth year of doing it well.  Barry probably never had to block in his entire HS career.  Hell,  a HS coach that wasn't fired first would be killed by a mob of spectators for endangering the runner sent from heaven.  Barry J. is also pretty light,  so a year of development AND blocking fundamentals wouldn't hurt.

Related to everyone being impatient to see Barry play.  Whatever happened to Wilkerson?  The guy is big enough to really be a hammer but he never seems to really commit to a hole and turn upfield.  Kinda dances a lot when he should be going north/south.  I know he was hurt,  but he just doesn't seem to have Taylor's decisiveness.  Waste of a good physical specimen if he just never gets it in gear.  I wonder if he'll be displaced by Remound Wright who insiders say is the real deal.  Not quite as fast as Kelsey Young,  not as big as Wilkerson,  no marvelous moves like Sanders...but able to run and slash in traffic.

Re: Freshmen Report - fullmetal - 10-26-2012

Wilkerson seems to enjoy making his living on the edges, though he certain has the size to punish defenders inside the tackles.  I guess it's a mental thing.

Stepfan Taylor is probably the straw that is valiantly trying to stir this offense's drink, and he does enough for this team to deserve the Voldemort.  But no RB ever won the Voldemort for being a complete player.

We've got WSU and Colorado before Oregon State and Oregon.  Get everyone some reps and have some seasoned legs ready for the Oregon schools.

Re: Freshmen Report - teejers1 - 10-26-2012

Guys, Stanford has been hit with some injuries, the lingering effects of which are still being felt/seen by play on the field.  This is true in the offensive backfield, as well as in other positions.

Thanks for posting.  Any idea why Aziz Shittu is not mentioned there?

Because it's Pep talking about the frosh on offense.

Encouraging words about Aziz from his teammate:

"David Lombardi ‏@davidmlombardi
"FR DE @AzizShittu will be one of the best to ever leave Stanford University. He's thirsty to improve" - NT Terrence Stephens"
