Well, Terrence Brown was injured.

But the problem here is mostly conceptual. No one would suggest that because Stanford, SC, UW and Kal all run pro-style offenses that the strategies required to stop them are identical. Same is true of spread offenses.  UCLA is more pass-oriented than Oregon; if, like zona and WSU, they are able to complete short passes consistently they may cause us problems defensively.

I think part of what went wrong against AZ is that Matt Scott had the game of his life.  Best game ever for a QB against Stanford.  He completed 65% of his 69 passes.  I don't have the clearest memory of the game, but I think our DBs were playing off quite a bit and Alex Carter had yet to assert himself.

Does anyone else "feel sorry" for Wayne Lyons? At the start of the year coach is calling him a future Thorpe award winner...now all the love goes to Alex Carter (who does look like a future Thorpe award winner).

I recall that last year UCLA played us well. They ran and passed well against us and Jonathan Franklin in particular had a very strong game. He averaged 8 ypc.

I feel pretty good about beating the Bruins after watching the USC vs UCLA game last night.  UCLA was ok at times (they had a lot of penalties and gave up a lot of sacks), but USC really defeated themselves.  The number of missed tackles was incredible - had to be in the mid-twenties.  Getting behind so early as USC did (an interception on the first play from scrimmage, and a fumble in the first quarter, both of which led to UCLA touchdowns), and a number of blocked kicks by UCLA really killed Trojans.  I think our guys have a much better defense and are much better coached than Trojans.  The Bruin defense didn't seem that great - I think Trojans did themselves in by some poor play calling.

The betting line keeps moving in our favor.  I just checked and we are now 3 point favorites on the road.  If we avoid too many turnovers I like our chances.

By the way, someone please make an official game thread like last week. that is handy.  Won't be me as it's early morning in my time zone (bangkok) and I'm usually wrestling with Internet, kzsu, and trying to assemble a vague sense of a slideshow from the illegal streaming services.
