Unable to watch the game, either live or on TV, so I'm just going by what I read on the Board, but it sounds like Rector will really fight for the ball. To me, that's encouraging. I recall seeing some plays in the past couple of years, where receivers did not really seem to go after the ball. Between his speed and toughness, it sounds like Rector might be a real playmaker in the receiving game.
Just curious if anyone has comments on Nwafor, Lyons, and Garnett?

I attended my first spring game today! Beautiful afternoon here, biked over to the stadium and sat on the 50 yard line for the first time ever, too.
To my untrained eye, I was impressed with Crower and Rector and Pratt especially. Skov looked more like the old Skov I thought too. It was humorous when Shayne Skov tackled little brother Patrick.
I noticed in the press release that Shaw talked up Crower too. Crower was 26/35 for 197 yards and two touchdowns.Â
Kaumetule did not look like the TE of the future, sadly. He finally did catch one by the end, I think. I'm told there are some talented frosh coming.
None of the runners looked to me to be up to Stepfan Taylor, but you have to believe that they could not be until they get more experience following blocks.Â
In the first half the offense looked good enough to make me worry that the defense had lost something.Â
And those are the only obvious impressions that stood out to this untrained eye.

I have a feeling our secondary is going to continue to look more and more physical.
We really looked like we had some good athletes out there.

Impressive catch by Rector, but bad throw by Hogan. Rector was behind the defense and had to come back into double coverage for that because that ball floated.
Long throws were a relative weakness of his last year, did Hogan have any other redeeming long balls?

Great catch by Rector, we need receivers to make plays like that where they impose their will on the defense, rather than just passively run to a spot.
Agree with dabigv. Hogan's ball was underthrown. Rector had to slow down and come back for the ball. Hogan said afterwards that he just threw it up there and that Rector made him look good.

Well, let's just hope the quote isn't different - Redrum - 04-14-2013
"Hogan said afterwards that he just threw it up there and that Rector made him look good."
It's not too hard to envision almost the same quote after a real game and be much grumpier about it
"I just threw it up there... and unfortunately the defensive back was in a better position and got the interception."
Hard to argue with how much Hogan contributed to a season that looked to be going off the rails last year. Also hard to argue that all the quotes about Hogan's growth and learning coming out of the practices didn't come true when applied to what we saw in a quasi-game situation.
All you people under 60 can go get coffee for a minute. For all those still left, despite the similarity in athleticism and ability to run, does anyone mistake Hogan for Don Bunce?

I remember every single quarterback at Stanford from Plunket on throwing into double coverage periodically. This happens a lot when quarterbacks are looking at a defensive lineman bearing down on them. This is what happend when Hogan threw to Rector yesterday. I don't remember a quarterback that has a better completion percentage, and completion to interception ratio than Hogan though.

Bopper was faster than Hogan. Like Hogan he was an accurate passer in the midrange.

Let's not forget that Hogan/Crower and the Stanford offense faced one of, if not the best, defenses in the country.
Wish I was in the crowd. Would have worn a rainbow colored-wig and held up a sign that says Proverbs 27:17.
