Martin bullied into forking over $15k for a Las Vegas trip? Concerned about retaliation if he spills the beans? A Young defensive player gone broke?

Bullying the rookies to pay is cowardly. They are big boys with big wallets. If they want somebody else to pick up the bill, they need to MAN UP and play credit card roulette.
Here's a prediction. Some hackers are going to make Incognito and Odrick's lives a living hell.
Martin's actions and words suggest that he is actually engaging in civil disobedience. Good for him.

Richie Incognito suspended by the Dolphins.
Watch the video by Adam Schefter as it details the text messages and voicemails sent by Incognito to JMart that were disrespectful and threatening.
As Schefter says, this story is only getting started. I am very happy the Dolphins moved quickly on this but I am guessing they didn't have had much of a choice as the evidence came out. I understand that making rookies do things for veterans is common NFL practice but a lot of this borders on extortion.Â

Hey - 11-04-2013
Incognito is one of the most difficult guys for me to stomach. Ever since he came into the league he's made me turn the channel.Â
This can't be good for Jonathan's image in the NFL, but he's a class act. My respect for him has increased because of this.
I hope he has a good plan to handle the situation.

Martin's agent and lawyer(s) are going to have a field day. What happens to his Dolphins contract now?

My biggest concern for Martin is his future reputation and what it may mean for him to be able to still have a career in the league. He did the right thing given the evidence we have seen so far (in my opinion at least). However, does he come across as a whiner or a bad teammate for this, and will other teams accept him down the line. I do not see how the Dolphins can bring him back into the locker room after this. At least not this season, since it seems to be a team that has more than just Incognito perpetuating this negative environment.

Apologies for the following offensive repost but it clarifies how awful this has been for Martin. Really disturbing.
Multiple sources confirmed to ESPN that the following is a transcript of a voice message Incognito left for Martin in April 2013, a year after Martin was drafted:
Quote:"Hey, wassup, you half n----- piece of s---. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. [I want to] s--- in your f------ mouth. [I'm going to] slap your f------ mouth. [I'm going to] slap your real mother across the face [laughter]. F--- you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you."
Sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that officials from both the NFL and the Dolphins have heard the tape and have copies of the message.

It sure would be nice to not hear about this story until there is a full and accurate accounting of what happened. It's not good for anyone involved to have dribs and drabs of information that fuel more speculation, come out.Â

Is it just me or Schefter look and sound very angry here. He seems to have taken this one personal.

I think that would be because of this:

Incognito sounds like a real class act from all of this.

Stupac, I had seen all of that. But the way Schefter was talking almost seemed like he was actively trying to to stay calm. I do not think those tweets were all of it, but I guess I am not a lawyer because I have a tendency to speculate.

Martin may or may not have a long future in the NFL, but I can already imagine him flying around the USA for various anti-bullying campaigns.
For Schefter, one could speculate that discrimination, harassment and/or bullying is in his personal or family experience and that Incognito's actions and Martin's situation resonated with him on a more personal level. Schefter was not exactly dispassionate during the segment.

An on-point article about all this:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9926888/miami-dolphins-kept-richie-incognito-control
As disgusting as it is, Incognito's behavior is probably more excusable than Martin's in the NFL. To me this case is all a matter of degree; Incognito was doing stuff that happens all the time in the NFL, but pushed it over the edge. The n-word will probably be what hurts him the most, but if you watch any locker room video, like the Prince Amukamara hazing video from a year ago, you'll hear it like every 5th word.
It's shameful, but Martin will be marked for this for the rest of his career. Fairly or not, he's been branded as a wuss and a rat. Incognito is just a dumb, ignorant meathead, and there is plenty of room for that in the NFL.
Hopefully Moose finds a good situation; I'm sure Harbaugh would love to get him on the cheap. If not at least he has that Stanford degree to fall back on.

Man, Martin was
real soft at Stanford. Buried guys under an avalanche of the softest toilet paper, that guy.
Re: Jonathan Martin reportedly walks out on Dolphins, seeks counseling -

This post made me think; I don't think anybody thought Martin was soft at Stanford, but people didn't talk about him like they did DeCastro and his "mean streak." From my limited ability to judge offensive linemen, I thought they were both excellent by any technical or athletic measure. But damn if every article about DeCastro didn't talk about his demeanor.
You read Trotter's article and that just emphasizes it. This macho, adolescent culture is really coming under a harsh light not only on this front, but on the concussion issue as well.
The NFL is going to have to change or it won't survive.
