But honestly you can place the blame on the entire team. We were outplayed on the road against a really good team. It happens. It took Luck 3 OT's to beat this team.

It took Luck 3 OTs to beat this team when they weren't ravaged by sanctions. We should have been able to expose their lack of depth, but couldn't.

Depth is overrated if you don't have a bunch of injuries. SC consistently gets better talent than us on signing day. The only exception being the recruiting class where we got all of our 4 & 5 star O-Lineman.

I don't know about the injury situation of SC at the moment but I think they have improved a bunch under this new coach. They are motivated, they came to play in front of the home crowd. They out performed us when it counted. But we were in the game the whole time. They just came out on top. 2 years ago we could've just as easily lost the game after a 4th quarter INT by Luck.

Both Luck & Hogan with 4th Q INT's @ SC.

Ravaged by Sanctions? - Redrum - 11-18-2013

(Oooh!  What would I give to be ravaged by sanctions)  Sorry. Obscure movie reference.

You should not buy into the SC propaganda.  They were very good at poor mouthing themselves and a LOT of people believed it. Ravaged by sanctions, I tell you!! Worse than the Holocaust.  But the proof to the contrary is right before your eyes.  It was COACHING.  They got rid of Lame Kitten and voila!!  The Trojans re-emerged.  All this time they spent moaning and groaning but USC kept attracting very talented players...which makes Lame's failure look even starker.  The fact is we got beat because USC still managed to recruit very good players all along.  Just not as many of them.  Injuries could have decimated them,  but it didn't.  Marquise Lee came back and he did damage to us even if not 100% healthy.

The story of our last two seasons' success is our better and more experienced athletes could handle lesser teams and our style worked well w/ Oregon because we kept the ball out of their hands long enough.  And it's possible the departed Pep Hamilton really did raise David Shaw's play calling ability in previous years.

But our team lost by a field goal to a team of roughly equal or a little bit better talent finally blessed with better coaching than Lame.  Hope their OC gets picked for a HC job back East soon.

I really don't understand the occasional calls I've heard for Pep Hamilton. Has anyone watched the Colts? Better yet, the 2012 Stanford offense? If you can locate the quality offensive mind that is Pep Hamilton, feel free to inform me, because I can't.

Many Colts fans would gladly trade Pep H to Stanford for the pick of the litter of our linemen... They are not happy in Indy. But to be fair, he's been dealing with the loss of 5-6 offensive starters (several o-line, their #1 TE [sorry Fleener], and the Hall of Fame WR.)

As far as I can tell the general sentiment of Colts fans is that Luck bails out Pep more often than Pep sets Luck up to succeed. Though, of course, Indy's biggest problem is the set of folding chairs they have for an OL. If only they had a first-round pick for an OL upgrade...

You mean every time Pep calls an A-gap run for Trent Richardson and Luck checks out to something involving play action? :p

Pep Hamilton Part deux - Redrum - 11-18-2013

I gave no comment and gave no praise to Pep Hamilton the Colt OC.  My only speculation was that he contributed to making Shaw a better play caller.  I am perfectly willing to admit that maybe Shaw was carrying Pep but I don't think we can sort that one out in real time.  One thing is obvious, though.  Stanford has had more or better talent--relative to competition-- than Pep has now relative to Indianapolis' competion in the NFL.

You're right. It's possible the combination of Pep + Shaw made both of them more effective than they'd be individually.

I have given up on Richardson and live in vicarious fear every time that Luck drops back.  The rush arrives there with him or a split second later.  Luck may already own the NFL record for most passes thrown by stepping up into a collapsing pocket and throwing a split second before the pummelling begins.

He doesn't have a #1 receiver and is Hilton a bona fide #2?  Richardson cannot play and Brown might not be a backup anywhere but in Indy.  Wayne is out and Griff isn't a viable option.  Thanks God and justice for Coby's excellent night last Thursday but you watch this OL and his skill players and Indy's record and think, "Not possible."

He seems almost miraculous.

Should Indy have moved for some OL help before the trade deadline?

You may be right, but, if he has now taken over that record, I'll bet the guy he surpassed was our own Jim Plunkett from his years with the Patriots.  As I recall, the Voldemort trophy was as effective a blocker as some of his offensive linemen...

The Wildcat lives

yeah, against #108 ranked team... - Redrum - 11-23-2013

The magic is in where and when to call the play and against whom.  We were at the point in the game where they could be diagraming plays on the ground during the huddle:  "OK, Ty, you go down about eight yards and button hook.  Kodi, drag over the middle.  If they overload it's going to you, Jordan..."
