I hope his car doesn't get a flat tire on the way out of Seattle.  Drivers will swerving to hit him in the road.

The majority opinion among Husky fans suggests that they will swerve out of the way so he can get out of town faster.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure after another year with little to no improvement in record/performance, Sark didn't have the coldest seat in the conference anyway.

I just had a horrifying thought.  UW hires Mason to be their HC.

I always figured Mason's next jump would be NFL DC. I'm not sure why, but I just don't really see him as a CFB HC.

In the end, the UW AD will probably see this hire as a blessing.  Their supporters wanted UW to buyout Sarkisian's contract.  Now USC will likely need to compensate UW for their loss.  There are probably more benefits too.  No need to look bad firing a coach with some level of success.  No need to worry about a year with coaching uncertainty, etc.

RT @insidetroy As he was leaving Dan Weber asked Pat Haden "How's it going" and he responded "I've had better days." #USC

As Feldman says, an odd reaction for an AD: https://twitter.com/BFeldmanCBS/status/407649382008242176

And Coach O "tenders his resignation". Not Haden's finest hour  ::)

As in getting my first choice in a basketball coach as opposed to my last choice in a football coach.

Garvin - re: Lupoi...  Please, no.  I hope the closest he ever comes to a UC locker room is the opposing sideline.  He is a recruiting violation waiting to happen.  Wilcox, on the other hand, I would take in a heartbeat.  He is an outstanding coach....

With this new North/South thing, it is not clear to me where we want a mediocre coach like Sarkisian:  SC or UW.

Having him at SC will certainly give us a good chance in the SC game each year, and probably ensure we're able to sign our fair share of Socal players who might otherwise consider a powerhouse SC program.

On the other hand, UW is in our direct path to the Rose Bowl every year.  They have a new facility and a good history.  I am fairly confident Oregon is going to decline, but a good UW coach could potentially build that program into our main North rival.  Seattle is an easier sell than Eugene (in my opinion) and Washington also benefits from a few annual prospects in-state.

Assuming that Sark is definitely mediocre (as opposed to probably mediocre), the choice is easy: SC. Fully armed and operational SC takes the oxygen from the rest of the conference. Fully armed and operational UW is simply a tough challenge.

I don't know... I think SC sucking up the oxygen is a good thing for us. Yes, we may lose one or two guys to them but, by and large, our recruits are a different breed and will come to Stanford as long as we remain a good program regardless of how good SC is.

On the other hand, if SC isn't sucking up the oxygen, we end up with a bunch of pretty good teams throughout the conference as was the case this year, any of which could beat anyone else on a given day.

Beating one or two elite teams and bunch of mediocre ones in a season is easier than beating a pretty good team each and every week. The latter was the case in the PAC this year while the former is closer to the model that works so well for the SEC heavyweights.

Thoughts on where Orgeron will end up? Guy seems like a great motivator/recruiter - and David Shaw surely made an impression with him with the post-game visit...

Right now, we have a defensive coordinator. I think Orgeron is going to be interviewing for some head coaching positions.

I nearly threw up in my mouth. Orgeron has the mental capacity of a dim-witted 4th grader. The following is a recent quote from him:

Quote:“I want to be the head coach at USC,” Orgeron said two weeks ago. “I love being a head coach. I think that it’s something I’m able to do, and do well. And I want to be the head coach at USC when I get the chance. I think I can perform on a very high basis to do what the Trojan family wants me to do.”

This guy is stupider, MUCH stupider, than Walt Harris. There is no way a Stanford player could respect or follow him.

Oh yeah, for good measure:

Really bad hire. Hope UW hires Alabama's offensive coordinator that would be a double whammy of bad hires :D

Why? I ask this sincerely, since I was trying to make the case myself a while ago and couldn't actually convince myself. The fact that they've been pretty consistently good for the past two decades, having only two losing seasons in the past 20, the most recent 10 years ago. It's definitely possible that they won't be churning out 12-win seasons every year like they have for the past few, but even if they decline to "only" being a 9-3 team on average they'll still be plenty dangerous. Besides, Kelly went 10-3 in his first year, a record that Helfrich is likely to best. Is he just riding Kelly's coattails? I dunno, but people were probably making the case that Kelly was just riding Bellotti's in 2009.

I think that it's far too early to have any confidence in Oregon's decline. It's entirely possible that this will turn out to be a brief period of success after decades of mediocrity that they will sink back into, but I sort of doubt it.

How does Sark say this stuff with a straight face:

Quote:“I didn’t interview for the job,” Sarkisian told KJR. “They (University of Spoiled Children ) reached out and I talked to them (this weekend).”

Maybe him saying that with a straight face was part of the interview process...

They've been weakened by the sanctions and an idiot coach.  Under better leadership without sanctions, it seems to me that $C would be our 2nd toughest competitor for recruits after the Hunchbacks or maybe even tougher.  Then it's the Crimson Turd, and then University of/State University.

I'm hoping Saban stays in Tuscalossa.  Having him in a much more attractive locale (Austin) with a MUCH deeper pool of home state talent (and one that we dip into) would make him an even more lethal force and a problem for us.

Glad that Mora's staying in UCLA so he can split recruits with Sark.
