I think you were a little redundant in you subject line, Mick.

The worst story I've read about Brazilians partying at the World Cup occurred in Paris. France's defeat of Brasil made some Brazilian fans so upset that they tried to extinguish France's eternal flame under the Arc de Triomphe by urinating on it. One of these fans was of the fairer sex.
EDIT: Upon further internet research, the said fan was Mexican, a man, and extinguished the flame. I was sure that I read the above in a news account back in 1998. Perhaps he was a fan of The Selection and reported as such or French authorities at the time identified him as Brazilian.

It's the title of the Youtube video, and I agree...;)

I believe the field at Stanford Stadium is too small to accommodate a World Cup soccer field. For FIFA international matches, the width of the field must be at least 64 meters (70 yards). The width of a football field is 48.8 meters (53-1/3 yards). I don't think Stanford's field is wide enough for a full international field, with adequate sideline space for the teams, medical staff, etc.

I just hope we pay Ghana back with interest for knocking us out of the World Cup four years ago. That is all.
I was on vacation in Sicily when that game played out and learning the result was a bit deflating. I don't care how much of a flake outfit our national soccer team is, we have no business getting knocked out of the World Cup by the likes of Ghana.

This has to be the supreme example of Cardboard thread drift. I missed my chance to follow CI's link and have no idea what the thread was originally supposed to be about.

CowboyIndian was talking about his trip to Laredo and the Okie dance crew he was forming for pointy boots dance-offs. He put it in the context of trying to get through the college football off season.Â
When we started talking about the World Cup he went off in a snit.
Hey, SamAtoms...I've got a present for you.. - Redrum - 02-23-2014
My sister, who was definitely old enough to know better, did two long tours of volunteerism in Ghana. One, right on the Cote d' Ivoire border with its vicious civil war where rebel groups were hazy on the concept of national boundaries. Her first tour was during the apogee of Ghana's success in the World Cup and she unhesitatingly cheered them beating the U.S.  Came home for Christmas and her favorite gift of all the weird stuff she brought back was a Ghana Black Stars futbol jersey for me. Said they were selling like hotcakes in Ghana. Size XXL. She insisted that I put it on for a photo. As if. Adding to the humiliation of the soccer loss, if the XXL jersey is any indication, we got beaten by a team of eight year-olds. I could wear it like a decorative head dress, but little else. The point of this long story? I think I've got a size XXL Ghana Black Stars jersey in unworn condition around here someplace and maybe you can use it for some voodoo ceremony if your dream revenge scenario ever comes to pass.
And, if it makes you feel better, Ghana showed its appreciation for her support with a long bout of malaria, so there's that.

I don't see any thread drift. The subject of the thread is "what's more boring than the college football offseason?" and the thread is about soccer. Seems to me that the thread is perfectly on point.

I don't go into withdrawal until after the Draft.
