I didn't sign up for the content of the articles either.  The Eugene Register-Guard of 12/24/2002 mentions a column "last week" by Tim Kawakami of the SJMN relating all the leg and foot problems to the spring-reinforced floor.

I remember a series of stress fractures in the feet of Stanford big men that was being used as recruiting fodder and finally finished the bouncy floor.  I once coached a team in the championship of the AAU Pacific region and became seasick sitting on a folding chair on the sideline.  I spent the rest of the game on my feet, even when there was no need.  The players absolutely loved the floor.

Thanks, MT.  It looks like, indeed, I do need to apologize to Wilner.  On top of the Niners losing.  Bad weekend... although there's one redeeming feature, since I went to see the men's win over Oregon State.

It reminded me of the old days -- a tight, exciting game resulting in a victory with some clutch plays at the end.  Really, the only difference is that, in the old days, that would have been a win against a ranked Arizona that solidified our spot at the top of the Pac-10, while this was a win against a team tied for last place that solidified (?) our tie with some other teams for fifth place in the Pac-12.  Really, pretty much the same thing...  ::)

I only played on Maples a few times, but I never really thought I jumped any higher because of it. But on the several occasions I had to rush the court as a student, and everybody was bouncing around to All Right Now, if you timed your jump right, I swear I got an extra foot off the ground! That was like a trampoline.

Yeah, when ~500 people jump all at the same time, well, the laws of physics can't be denied.  Fun stuff, that floor.
