And now Brakeman can't find the strike zone. Walked the leadoff man on 5 pitches, and has gone 3-0 on the second hitter. Missing his spots by feet, not inches.
And now walked his second man on 5 pitches. Two men on, none out.

Wow that was fun ending on a DP.
Stanford 10 Indiana 7 -
Viking_Guy - 06-01-2014
After Brakeman loaded the bases (albeit being really squeezed on the third walk), Castellanos came in. A hard ground ball to Blandino at 3rd. From the seat of his pants, he threw out the runner at second (coming very close to sailing the ball into right field; luckily, Doran was able to stretch up and get it).
Then Castellanos, against Indiana's best hitter, Dustin DeMuth (.382 on the season), got him down 2 strikes, then DeMuth hit a soft liner right at Doran with the runner at first going. Doran caught the ball deep at second, then simply ran to first and touched the first base bag, as the runner was already on second base.
There will be another game.
Woo-hoo!

Pitching for the final regional game -
CTcard - 06-02-2014
Indiana's pitching seems to be in better shape than ours heading into the final game - not too surprising since we had to play an extra game going through the loser's bracket. Perhaps it's time for one of our frosh pitchers to return to his early season form.
Indiana has not yet used the guy who was their Sunday starter the last half (or so) of the season, Brian Korte. I would assume we will see him today to start. The guy is 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA and a 0.232 BA against. He doesn't seem to go very many innings (6.1 was the most I could find, usually 3-5), but obviously has not been allowing a lot of runs while he is in. He is a senior, who has been in and out of their starting rotation over his career.
They got to this point (i.e. having a Sunday starter available) by starting their designated closer in game 1 - his first career start. He went 4.0 innings and hasn't appeared since. Presumably he is ready to show up in relief again.
Not sure what Stanford will do. The guy with the most work this season who hasn't pitched much yet in the regional is Chris Viall, though he did pitch to 1 batter (2 pitches) to finish the first Indiana game. Not sure where he stands at the moment in the pitching pecking order - he last started in the late mid-week game vs SJS that we lost (went 3.0 innings facing 2 batters in the fourth) then pitched as part of the end-game meltdown in game 3 vs WSU. He was quite strong in the early season, getting the win vs Rice, had good starts vs Texas, Kansas (didn't go long enough to get the W), and pitched 6 good innings in a loss vs USC. He then had a couple of tough outings vs UO and OSU and dropped from the weekend starter role for Hochstatter.
Another frosh, Tyler Thorne, has 5 starts on the year and has only pitched one inning (20 pitches) in Bloomington. I don't think that any of those starts were during a weekend series.
The guys who seem almost certainly out are Hanewich (113 pitches yesterday), Vanegas (80 pitches yesterday), and Hoschstatter (114 pitches Saturday). Quantrill had 104 pitches in his complete game on Friday.

Well, Kathy, given that I'm a native of the Sunflower State, you can understand that I'm not a fan of the Raiders (neither the Civil War nor the NFL version). On the other hand, I grew up a K-State fan, so I don't take personally the fact that Lawrence was left in ruins. And I'm definitely not a Jayhawk fan (neither the Civil War nor the Big XII version).
All I care about right now is that Stanford beats IU this afternoon. What a great ride!

Logan James may be able to throw a few innings.Â

Hmm
James was the starting pitcher yesterday evening allowed 5 hits and 4 runs in 1.2 innings.

One game does not make a season. James has been great lately.Â

True
primarily wondering if they would use him since he just pitched last night.
