I was wondering when we'd start into the "in spite of" vs "because of" argument with respect to Dawkins and his players being drafted. Personally, I don't know. But if Dawkins is going to be our coach for a while, having 2 players drafted is unequivocally good for the program. The more recruits see Stanford as a possible launching pad for NBA careers, the more likely we are to get top recruits.

If a guard gets drafted I will give Dawkins credit, but Huestis and Powell blossomed during their junior years when Maddog was on the staff. I give him the credit.

As a Warriors fan, I was selfishly hoping that Huestis would fly under the radar and get picked up as an undrafted player, particularly given Lacob's Stanford connections. But I am absolutely thrilled for The Wiggins Stopper, who was my favorite player on the team in recent years. I love that you can be a 4-year player in the most hyped draft in years, be an absolute team player, do all the dirty work and never demand the ball, and still earn a 1st round spot. He appears to be replacing Thabo Sefolosha as a defensive specialist (which means he would be asked to match up on Lebron) and OKC hope that he will blossom like Kawhi Leonard. He will certainly have plenty of time working on his defense against Durant in practice. Found a pre-draft workout video, always thought he had nice form, but wow, he looks great here (as every player should in a highlight package). I can't really remember that we ever ran a play for him off the curl on the wing, but I honestly couldn't bear to watch every minute of our games.

Dwight Powell also has a highlight video where he is shooting 100% from the field, with a bunch of the shots coming over Cameron Bairstow, the skinny headband wearing Lobos player who is probably having flashbacks from the tourney. Unfortunately, he ended up in Cleveland, but hopefully he will get some good coaching under David Blatt, because he certainly has all the physical talent needed to succeed.

Here's a write up on Huestis' Summer League performance from an OKC fan:
http://thunderousintentions.com/2014/07/14/osl-performance-eval-josh-huestis/
In Summary:
Quote:n 83 minutes and 46 seconds, or roughly 21 minutes per game, Huestis per-game averages are as follows: 8 points off of 42.9% shooting (12.5% from 3-point range), 81.3% free throw shooter, 1 assist, 2.3 rebounds (1.3 off., 1 def.), 0.3 steals, 0.5 blocks, 1.8 personal fouls, 1.5 turnovers, and 0.3 blocks against.
The fan is predicting the Huestis ends up in the D-League for next season. The poor three-point shooting is a consistent point made by analysts who are not bullish on his prospects. Apparently he improved his 3-point shooting in colleges from 20% to 36%, but you gotta wonder if that's his cap on potential, considering the additional range in the NBA. Clearly, Thunder management see more potential than this guy, so hopefully they're more on the mark on his prospects.

will be interesting to see if he gets packaged to MN in xchange for Love or not

As of yesterday:
- Minnesota's GM absolutely mandated that Klay Thompson be included in a trade for Love
- LeBron James asked Love to join him in Cleveland
- Cleveland put Wiggins on the table in trade for Love
If that's all true, then I don't see Love coming to the Warriors, and in any event I doubt that Love would sign long term if Thompson weren't here.
