As far as Pat Fitzgerald is concerned, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I was one of the few who picked Cal to win (along with Wilner), but I never expected a cal blowout.

They have a really good offense.  The defense is the question.

Portland State is up 14-13 at the half over Oregon State. Hopefully they don't repeat their 2013 season opening home loss to a FCS school.

I am curious about your comment here, care to elaborate?

Sure. When my son was a senior in high school Pat Fitzgerald (kind of) recruited him to play for Northwestern.  To say that he was evasive and not forthright through the entire process would be an understatement. I subsequently found out from talking to other parents that this was pretty much his MO. Never had much use for the guy after this.

Ok, how about a little consistency here?  :P  If the cellar dwellers don't matter when they lose (like Wazzu did), then they also don't matter when they win (like the weenies did).  Right?

Remember RG3's senior season.  He didn't catch fire until he had to lead his team from a 3 TD deficit to win over Kansas in the 4th quarter alone.  What was he doing earlier that game (and earlier that season), clipping his toenails?  But that comeback vs. Kansas happened, and the rest is history.

My impressions.
1) The Pirate has an offense, but the Cougs still are the Cougs.  If they ever get a defense they might be tough, but I expect them to continue finding ways to lose close games.
2) Beavers off to their traditional slow start, struggling against Portland State.  Not impressive.
3) Huskies struggled against the 'Bows.  Am I glad we never hired Norm Chou.
4) UCLA is really a favorite to win the PAC 12?  Really?
5) Oregon surprised no one by winning a body bag game.  Good thing Chip Kelly was not coaching, or the scoreboard would have looked like the odometer on a 73 Volvo.

Couple of big concerns.

Garnett struggling against guys he should have dominated.  At this point, USC should attack #51 with every stunt, twist and blitz in their defensive playbook.  If Hogan can't lead a receiver, we are going to see a lot of picks like the one we saw over the middle.  We've got some speed out there, and if he can hit guys in stride we could see some big numbers in our passing game this year.  (That would be big numbers in a positive way. :) )

I assume McCaffrey's TD was on a hot route -- which if so was impressive recognition and adjustment to the blitz, to your point, beeg dawg.

Did anybody watch this game?  Is this explanation consistent with what you saw?
