Though we'll be trailing 21-16 at the break (3 first-half FGs and 1 TD for the good guys; 3 TDs for the bad guys), we get an early 4Q TD to pull ahead 24-21 (2-pt conversion succeeds), only to see the bad guys get a TD with just a few minutes left to go up 28-24. Hogan methodically leads our guys down the field with lots of mid-range passes to our TEs and to Cajuste and throws to Sanders/Young/McCaffrey in the flat. On 3rd and goal from the 2, we line up in a jumbo package with no WRs, the bad guys sell out against the run up the middle, BUT WAIT--Hogan keeps it and runs to the right, and a lone OLB is forced to choose between covering the TE running right behind him and running up to stop Hogan's run. He stays in coverage a second too long, and Hogan beats him to the corner for the go-ahead score. We go for two, but the run comes up just short, leaving UofSC with just under a minute to try for a winning FG. Williamson's kickoff is deep, but our coverage team picks the worst possible time to give up a big return, and UofSC brings the return to the 40, giving us all heartburn. Kessler moves UofSC to our 40 quickly, but tries to thread the needle on a pass to get into field goal range, and we get the game-sealing INT. The LSJUMB plays Tribute to Troy while we line up in the victory formation. We all exhale. We're exhausted, but we're also 2-0.
I'll say we're exhausted. I'm exhausted just reading this!

I guess I'm always confident against $C, but I really think we're going to own them up front, certainly on defense (and watching Leonard Williams against our line last year, we controlled him and I think Peat will again). It might be tough on our offense, but we have a lot of weapons. I say 30-13 Stanford. We struggle a little in the RZ (hence the 3FGs), but $C can't move the ball against us.

Stanford jumps out to a big lead with a dominant defense (think multiple pick sixes) and efficient offense, then holds off a USC rally as the defense starts to tire.

This is not good. Reading this, I need a drink and it's only Wednesday. Good thing the rest of the season is easy after this.

THAT was a very good promo! I'm psyched! I think I'm peaking too early. I'll be exhausted by kickoff.

Had to "upvote" that descriptor. For the sake of my continued existence I hope you are not even close to being correct.

Perhaps change the order and drop the "C":Â BajaU.
According to Merriam-Webster's Spanish-English translation, "baja" has several meanings, including fall and loss. Seems appropriate, given their player's recent falling fabrication and their famous losers mascot.

Might be close until the USC freshmen on the field just get too tired to play at the level required to win. I feel good about the 20 prediction, but I confess I wish I had more confidence in the 31.

I have been so freaking antsy this whole week. i can't wait i can't wait i can't wait. not only have i been obsessively checking the cardboard, i've been checking the bootleg, and i've been checking trojanhuddle and uscwhatever and whateverwhatever for any word on the status of leonard williams and mama's boy and hoping that kessler's toe just explodes with pus and staph (okay, not really--that's too much, but I do hope it hampers him). on the subject of leonard williams, i have no idea how somebody could play if it actually is a "high ankle sprain" which means that either sark is lying about him playing, or it's not a high ankle sprain (because the high ankle sprain has only been reported by non-official usc sources) anyway, i have nothing important to say but that doesn't mean i'm not going to blither like an idiot because i'm excited i'm so excited i so want to completely destroy usc so let it be written so let it be done

I will stick with the score I posted on sporthoopla in the P12 thread (those guys are jerks, but trolls can be fun to mess with).
This game will ride on a +n umber on the TO battle for the men of knowledge, and the Siete Steve penalty mojo taking the evil invading force out of prime field position at key points in the game.

Oddly enough, the closer we get to game day the more comfortable I feel about us winning and Shaw surpassing Sarkisian in the overall win total . . . with 23 fewer losses.Â
That said, I'm terrible at this game, so I'll go against my gut with a narrow 24-20 victory for the good guys.

I'm hoping for a certain backup receiver and special teams player to play a pivotal role in the guys' winning the game.

I think both teams will play competently but USC will make a few more mistakes and fall short of the goal line on a few more drives. Stanford gets a comfortable but not resounding win.
