Re: Oregon game thread - Cardinal96 - 11-01-2014

After this I don't think I can call our defense elite any more.  Elite defenses don't give up three consecutive long TD drives.

Re: Oregon game thread - BostonCard - 11-01-2014

I'm not very optimistic about this game.  Oregon has had 139 yards rushing in the first quarter and change.  We are looking like we are back on our heels. We're a step slow, and our tackling looks weak. Oregon has had the ball three times, and have scored three times.  It's gonna be a long night.

This game is out of hand and this stanford team isnt very good.  I just want 7-5 and a bowl game.

Re: Oregon game thread - Cardinal96 - 11-01-2014

We are also 2 for 3 in holding penalties for kickoff returns.

Re: Oregon game thread - stanfordite - 11-01-2014

If I were officiating this game I'd flag Oregon for holding on every play of 7+ yards and Stanford would win in a fix ala 2002 Lakers-Kings.

Where is Mcaffrey? Haven't seen him on a single offensive play.

Amazing how far we've come that we think 7-5 "isn't very good".

Good question, because Sanders has not looked good.  5 carries, 2 yards.

Well, you guys got your wish... We go for it on fourth down (good call), we run Hogan on a roll out, and we got nothing when the ball is tipped.

Our D sucks! Our O sucks! Our ST sucks! Thank God that there's not shortage of beer in this bar.. Ugh!!

Re: Oregon game thread - davidv - 11-01-2014

The defense has been disappointing, particularly the lack of a pass rush.  Getting them to try for a field goal is a small victory.  Need to score before the half, then after half time to stay competitive.

Re: Oregon game thread - BostonCard - 11-01-2014

Just curious... why did we accept the penalty on third and goal.  Had we declined, it would have been fourth and goal, and while Oregon might have gone for it, the risk of them scoring third and long was higher (and, in fact, one of their receivers beat our DB).

Re: Oregon game thread - Bruce Wang - 11-01-2014

We are just getting outplayed on both sides of the ball.  At least their cheesy tempo doesn't appear to be the reason we are losing.

A positive - BostonCard - 11-01-2014

Cajuste is looking good.  Almost 100 yards receiving and just the first half.

Touchdown Stanford!  That was hüge.  Great play by McCaffrey to take it to the 1.

Re: Oregon game thread - davidv - 11-01-2014

brobdingnagian score indeed.  I don't know why we don't play McCaffrey out of the backfield on second and third down passing situations.  He is dynamic with the ball.

Re: Oregon game thread - BostonCard - 11-01-2014

Well, it could have been much worse.  Things were looking really bad there for a while, with Oregon up 21-6 and looking at first and goal.  But we held them to a field goal, scored on our subsequent drive, and forced the first punt of the game after the kickoff.  We are down 24-13 and should get the ball to start the second half.

Oregon is still looking like they have the game under control, but as I said... it could have been worse.

The lack of pass rush is killing us. That's the main reason we're doing badly, I'd guess, we can't get pressure with only 4. And when we do, we've only taken down Mariota once.

Re: Oregon game thread - needle - 11-01-2014

No turnovers for either side. Stanford is going to have to force one to realistically have a shot. My gut tells me that if it comes, it's going to be the secondary.

Can the defense play better? Yes. But the scary thought is that Oregon's offense can play better (Mariota has missed about three passes badly, plus one drop from an Oregon receiver on the last drive).

Wishing we had Mason with those halftime adjustments. Parry not going to be a factor, which hurts--evidently a lot. Is Olugbode OK?

Re: Oregon game thread - Bruce Wang - 11-01-2014

We are really missing Hoffpauir.
