I had the same thought, but I would imagine that the players think otherwise. Isn't part of the fun for the players of going to a bowl game actually
going to a bowl game (instead of staying home for another game)?

Aside from the fact it will be kind of nice to not spend a bunch of money on a last minute trip, it is definitely the best stadium of any other bowl we have a shot at, and I'd love to get to go to to a game there (presumably for less money than a Niners game, and maybe with a slightly less unbearable offense if Stanford plays like they did the last two games).

The players I've known and credible people who say they've talked to Stanford players say the opinions are all over the place, geographically and otherwise. Stanford has a very geographically diverse roster, so some players would like to play closer to: a) home and b)where its easier for relatives and friends to attend. Despite different geographical choices, most players say bowl prep is so time consuming that a few official bowl events really don't make most bowl locations all that special... unless they get to stay after. Some might welcome minimum disruption and like the idea of using Stanford's own facilities to prep for a game in Santa Clara.

If Oregon wins the Pac-12 then I think Stanford is pretty much a lock for Foster Farms Bowl. If Arizona wins then it's chaos because there will be five 6-3/5-4 teams with the top two bowl games take by Arizona (Rose) and Oregon (Alamo).
Holiday Bowl will NOT take USC or UCLA. Foster Farms has already indicated strong preference for Bay Area team.
Even if the 59ers win today they aren't in the picture with a 3-6 conf record. Utah can get into the picture if they win today and finish 5-4 in conf.
Likely opponent in FF Bowl? TBD but Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, & Iowa seem most likely.

There is zero chance a 2 loss Oregon team doesn't make one of the Big-6 bowls.

That's a game worth watching. Colorado up by a field goal late in the third.

Utah just went ahead on a pick-6. Lifau threw it right to the DB.

Even though it will make my head explode, I should hope/pray for a No tre Dame win today to make a game at Levis for Stanford. How did it ever come to this?

ND/SC, that's the game where we hope for an earthquake.

I'd pray for an earthquake to swallow the coliseum. In any case, USC is destroying Notre dame 14-0 so far. Golson is 3/10. It is a measure of the
dormers Domers
dilutions delusions that they thought he belonged in the Voldemort conversation.

Now 21-0 in the first. USC migh hit the over by itself.
Golson just threw an interception. He's 6/17 on the day for 53 yards and a pick.

A couple of the more vocal players are asking us to vote for Stanford for the Las Vegas Bowl. I trust that they will behave and they have worked hard to deserve our support. I dont blame them for the underachievement. I blame Bloomgren.
Lvbowl.com
It seems that Stanford is such the overwhelming favorite that I suspect one of them or their classmates hacked the site.
On the other hand, we can trust that the players from one of our opponents will misbehave and screw their eligibility. So if whoever hacked the site is reading this, turn the votes to $outhern©al.

I forgot the guy in charge is a Stanford alum. That combined with the fact we've never been sure makes it seem like a lock.

Separately, I thought Caspers performed better. Other assessments out there??????

Even though it's pretty far down the pecking order for the B1G it would be nice to play a team with a pulse, too. Some of those other lower-tier bowls have pretty crappy opponent.
