I thought the new slogan showed a complete lack of imagination. I was told a few years ago that "The Cardinal Rules" would be the permanent slogan across all sports. Apparently, permanence is relative.

I'd go with #2.

I always liked the Chicago Bulls slogan: See Red. Could work for Stanford too.
"We Work" might not be the best... - Redrum - 08-25-2015
...but it should stand on its own, whatever its merits. The test is, does it inspire or catch something about the football program Zeitgeist? Don't go looking out in society for its true meaning. The controversy nourished by Jon Wilner --that "We Work" was an insult to the unemployed--was stupid. Well, OK, it was
silly. Maybe both. It's like saying the slogan "Driven to Win" insults the handicapped who cannot operate automobiles. Marketing slogans avoid direct insults. So those looking for controversy must have had to squint and figure how it
might be an insult. I have no idea what football players thought of it. My guess is they were getting a drink from the Harbaugh blue-collar firehose and didn't give it another thought. Neither should we.

It's a good slogan, but makes more sense for Chicago, since they're mascot is the Bulls...

I always thought the department spent way too much time debating slogans while I worked there. In my opinion, 5% of slogans are great, 5% are horrible, and 90% are meh. I can't even remember what last year's slogan was. Now, "so close you might need pads" is a different story. I think that one was a -5% slogan. God awful would be a polite way to describe it.

How about:
"Slogans? We don't need no stinking slogans!"

Indeed, you caught me. I was going to point out a few days ago how even you would have to give Dawkins some props if he succeeded in turning Michael Humphrey into a decent point guard, but somebody else saw the issue before I had a chance to post.
I will, however, observe that it likely isn't all Dawkins' fault that season tix sales are down from the Montgomery years. As anyone who had season tix during that era will be able to tell you, the price of those seats [lower bowl, at least] increased ASTRONOMICALLY when Bowlsby introduced seat licenses, full ticket prices for exhibition games, etc. I'm pretty sure it isn't Dawkins who's asking for the ridiculous per game prices that now exist, and I know for a fact that those prices adversely impacted season ticket sales.
But, hey, can't we at least wait until halfway through football season to start piling on Dawkins? I've got to save my energy for defending Shaw's play-calling against teejers... ;D

I don't know if Shaw's playcalling is worth defending :p Just spend the energy hoping Stanford wins...

See Red would be just fine for Stanford too.

Does the slogan matter? Does anyone really buy tickets based on the slogan? I doubt it.

That's actually a really good slogan.
SHOW THEM SOME LOVE -
martyup - 09-02-2015
I'm going to throw out the "L" word for a slogan. I propose that the team make this season all about love. Love of the game of football. Love of your team and your coaches. Love of the fans and the University. And, yes, love of your opponents. But the love they show opponents should be tough love. Every time one of our linebackers makes a big tackle, he is giving the opponent some tough love. Every perfectly run pass route combined with a well placed Hogan pass will be an act of love. Every time CMAC jukes a would-be tackler, he's showing him some love.
Our team should endeavor to have fun doing what they love to do -- playing football. And as fans, win or lose, we should always show our team and coaches how much we love them and the game of college football.Â
"SHOW THEM SOME LOVE"Â -- That should be the team slogan.

Quote:Marty, I love you, bro, but please, step away from the coolaide.
I know at first blush it seems soft. But, it can be a slogan that attaches to a brutally physical team that is confident and plays the game with joy, albeit cruelty.
BTW, I think you meant to say "Kool-Aide. "
