Re: Prediction Thread? - 81alum - 09-01-2015

Stanford 31 NW 21

The first game of the season will be sloppy, with defenses setting up one or more scores for each side.  NW's talented backfield will make a couple of big plays, helping it keep the game relatively close.  But by the second half Hogan will settle in and begin to solve the NW defense, and Stanford will grind the clock on a long drive in the fourth quarter and kick a field goal to ice it.

Since you changed it on me, here is proof that you cannot win  ;)

The correct usage is to "flesh out" as your edited post notes.  I apologize about the grammar nazi-ism of the post, but any chance to post a cartoon from The Oatmeal was too much to pass up.

Re: Prediction Thread? - SeattleTree - 09-01-2015

34-24 Trees.  Early morning start, hot humid weather, breaking in numerous new players on the defense, a Power 5 opponent wanting to make a statement all lead to a close game for a half.  Then the saplings on D come up with a big turnover late in the 3rd quarter and Stanford pulls away.  NU scrubs get a TD late to make the score look closer than the game really was.

Re: Prediction Thread? - SUBuddha - 09-01-2015

38-17 NU leads at the end of the first quarter. After an epic defensive stand at the and of the 2nd quarter the offense comes out on fire in the second half ans we see Chryst or Burns in mop up time for the last 5 minutes.

Re: Prediction Thread? - pcgoode - 09-01-2015

38-17 for Stanford.  Stanford plays it relatively conservative on offence, Cardinal d-line puts in an impressive performance.

Re: Prediction Thread? - BigEasyCard - 09-01-2015

Stanford scores on first possession and never looks back.  Final 38 - 17 Stanford wins.

Geaux Cardinal!

Re: Prediction Thread? - FarmBoy - 09-01-2015

27-20 for the good guys.

Re: Prediction Thread? - 2 for 2028 - 09-01-2015

24-14 Stanford

Re: Prediction Thread? - czaja - 09-01-2015

34-17 to the good guys feels about right.

Re: Prediction Thread? - Papa John - 09-01-2015

Stanford 35, Northwestern 20

Re: Prediction Thread? - StanfordIndians1 - 09-01-2015

Sorry papa john for bring so close to your score...

Stanford 31-21

Don't cover the 12 favored by on road

Re: Prediction Thread? - CrazedZooChimp - 09-01-2015

34-20.  It's a little close in the first half, but our O-line wears down their defense, and our D-line starts clicking in the second half, allowing us to pull away.

Re: Prediction Thread? - Treebound - 09-02-2015

Stanford 33 Union Cats 13

We need to push these guys around and come out swinging.  Time for a new version of the TWU to emerge.  That left side of our line along with some solid play makers is going to wear down the purple people.  Let the real Kevin Hogan emerge and shock the talking heads.

West Coast Avengers 30
Great Lakes Avengers 17

We get an encouraging glimpse of Chryst during garbage time.

I agree the nickname doesn't work, GoodGrief.  But thank you SO much for the laugh.  I needed it today!

I actually had the comic book with the first-ever appearance of the GLA (in the WCA, of course).

I only remember two characters: Dinah Soar and Big Bertha.

Ok, here's my pick:

Cardinal and White: 36
Purple and Prosaic: 10

Re: Prediction Thread? - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 09-02-2015

The total number of points awarded is based on the number of players entering in a prediction for that week...i.e. 20 predictions, the person with the smallest margin of error gets 20 points, 2nd place gets 19 points, etc. There was a 10(?) point bonus if your score prediction was perfect and a 5(?) point penalty for picking against Stanford with the result being a Stanford win. Your weekly score would be added to the season-to-date totals.

Shall this be the formula for this season?

Is Guass running this contest again?  Publius?
