Come Join the Band is the first song the LSJUMB plays when it comes onto the field. It's also the first song played at basketball games.

At basketball, they play Come Join the Band when the teams leave the court at halftime.  Pretty much always.  I think they also do it at volleyball when the teams leave for the intermission between the second and third sets.

All I know is that when I practiced with the Band for three days, and performed in the Rose Parade, pre-game and halftime shows, it was never played.  And when I sang along as the MichState band played it, the younger band members looked at me as if I had two heads.  Methinks ARN has replaced CJtB as Stanford's official fight song.

I don't remember CJtB EVER being Stanford's fight song.  To my knowledge ARN has been it for at least 30 years.  But LSJUMB did play CJtB at football games back in my halcyon days of yore

Quote:Come Join The Band is the official fight song of Stanford University. The lyrics were written in 1907 by screenwriter and playwright Aurania Ellerbeck Rouverol, then a student at Stanford, and are set to the trio from Robert Browne Hall's New Colonial March.[1] Although Come Join the Band remains Stanford's official fight song, the Stanford Band nowadays plays All Right Now as their usual fight song at football games.

By the way, googling the song I found this:

Great and comprehensive compendium by folks more informed than I on the subject.

Will only say that I was a bit surprised not to see Honky Tonk Woman listed:  the cowbell beginning is quite memorable.

I think you need to add at least a decade to that.

Do the Doobie Bros get no love around here? Totally recognizable and getting me amped and ready to sing and a Bay Area connection to boot... (and I'm dating myself...)

Show up for a home game early. The band plays it when it comes onto the field. It is the first of several in its pre-game set before the members take their place in the stands.

When I was in junior high school, they would occasionally have a competition on the radio in the morning.  People would call in, and have the first 3 seconds of a song played for them.  If they identified it correctly, they would win $300.

Among the songs chosen to test contestants were "Whip It" and "My Sharona," but neither of these was successfully identified.  Nowadays I could recognize both with ease, as well as more than half of other well-known songs released between 1980-1989.  If you were to quiz me with something from the last ten years though..... well, forget about it  :)
