I'm concerned about Shittu's ejection. Not last night but in the first half next week.
Oh no, he's out for the first half next week?
Edit: Wilner says
he's eligible for next week.

An ejected player is out for two halls. He was ejected in the first half thus can start next game.

NOW you understand. Good.

I don't know if this was touched on in the game threads (I assume not), but Stanford did a lot to improve the fan experience at the game this year. They completely changed up the scoreboards, instead of having half the real estate taken up with game status information, resulting in live action that was smaller than before the board was upgraded (which was a decision that could only have been made by someone who had never actually been to a game), they moved that information to the ribbon board. So now the jumbotron is actually a jumbotron, and shows the action pretty well. Only gripe is that the aspect ratio is pretty wide now, probably like 3:1, so you miss some things that happen at the top/bottom of the camera. Small price to pay to be able to actually see the things.
Also, they completely did away with that horrible "tag board" that displayed the same 4 tweets over and over last year and drove my wife nuts. She was ecstatic about that.
Only downside was that the credit card processing at the concession stands is pretty horribly slow, and not every stand had it, including some of the new ones that they were specifically advertising. Who carries cash any more? Especially for Silicon Valley's more-or-less official university, that continues to baffle me.
But lesson learned, I'll stop by an ATM before I go to the next game. At least I'll actually be able to see replays this year.

I don't usually post about what-ifs, but this one caught my attention:
If the NCAA had the targeting rule in place a few years earlier (and it were called as aggressively as it was against Shittu last night), then Javes Lewis would have been ejected from the 2010 Stanford/Oregon game, and Stanford might have won a national title.Â

Could this game have set a Stanford record for most penalty yards?

12 penalties for 137 yards last game. Right now, we have the worst average in the conference. Miami of Ohio averaged 117 yards of penalties in their first two games. Not sure what the NCAA record is.
Last year, we averaged 5.7 penalties for 50 yards per game, which was 59th in the country. Last year's game high was 9 against Notre Dame. In that game, Noter Dame was called for one penalty. Last year's game high in yards was 85 yards against Washington. Most by an opponent last year was C.al, with 12 for 113 yards. We have had 0 penalties in a game, but not since 2005. Our lowest average penalties per game was 4.4 in 1996. Our lowest average penalty yards was 35.7 in 2006.
Incidentally, last year, BYU was 4-0, and was averaging 11 penalties for 105.5 yards per game.
