Speaking of Elway (who played football and baseball for Stanford) for St. Francis Pakloa has been an outstanding 1st baseman and hitter. Does Coach Shaw permit his football players to also play baseball ?
I'm not saying Pakloa wants to play baseball, just curious if it is allowed.
Approximately sixty years ago Stanford QB John Brodie got out of spring football practice because he played for the Stanford golf team.
Back in the John Brodie days Stanford did not give athletic scholarships so they didn't really have as much to hold over a player's head if he decided to do something like that.

After watching the Pakola commitment vid, I would never guess he is 6-3 and 267. Nevertheless, great guy for Stanford to land.

Tyler Gaffney played both. I'm sure there have been others but he's the most notable one from the current regime (at least that I'm aware of).

Toby Gerhart may be considered “recent” if you’re from the Elway/Dotterer/Cottrell/Harris/Cook/etc generation. I believe Shaw encourages participation in multiple sports at the high school level, so why not D1 college?
Late add: Zach Hoffpauir for current regime.

He visited for the disaster against Utah, but maybe he liked seeing Kaden Smith with 8 catches for 120 yards.

247 has 80% of their predictors saying he commits to Arkansas.

This has moved quickly to 95% predicting he's going to Arkansas.

Either the experts are herding or there is inside information suggesting it will be Arkansas.

His brother played there and is one of the most promising TE’s in the NFL. On IR this year. The Razorbacks are having a bad season.

Given
https://247sports.com/Player/JD-Bertrand-83463/ has de-committed from Georgia, and Stanford appears on his radar, the big question - as always - is has he submitted a Stanford application?
Usually, if they submit an application AND visit, the odds are pretty high they commit (assuming they are admitted), unless they have a girlfriend going to Virginia Tech.
This would be an intriguing get. Bertrand and Tristan Sinclair are projected as OLBs at 6-1 and under 220 pounds, but would be ILBs at Stanford. Makes me wonder what is going on here. Meizan is listed at about 6-2 and 250, and I'm guessing Mangam-Farrar will probably be adding weight to his listed 225 given he's 6-4 and is redshirting apparently.
Has there been a ideological shift to preferring smaller, quicker, faster ILBs? Or is this just a total coincidence, and they just want good players and will figure out when and how to play them?

This story is from two years ago, but provides some personal background on J.D. Bertrand:
https://www.dawgnation.com/football/recruiting/4-star-lb-and-eagle-scout-j-d-bertrand-just-made-his-eighth-or-ninth-uga-visit
4.0 GPA and Eagle Scout (Like Okereke).
After his decommitment from Georgia, my gut tells me that we are the top dawg in this hunt. I look forward to sharing a Cardinal recruiting success with my UGA alumni colleagues.
Geaux Cardinal!

More evidence that we aren't' getting Hudson Henry. We just offered another TE who is committed to our rival across the Bay.

Langdude - 10-11-2018
I think it was pretty clear from the beginning that he was a long shot NOT to go to Arkansas. I hope that our coaches have had other TEs in line given the fact that they must have known that. If Smith and JJAW go pro after this year, along with Irwin's graduation, we will have one "possession" receiver (Parkinson), meaning a guy we throw to at a spot to get a first down (and who will catch the ball because of good hands, height, and/or great route-running) and that need not get YAC. Of course, we could also change the nature of our passing game to add more diversity to our routes and passing plays, too, to fit our personnel (Wedington, OSB, Wilson).

Hilinksi is the younger brother of the former (and late) WSU QB Tyler Hilinski.

Everybody is getting on Butter’s kid at Liberty Brentwood. I know he’s 2020 but he has been quoted that he’s not afraid of a little competition. Given the legacy and the odds concerning previous mission recruited QB’s (Hill) coming back to the game after two years it makes sense to watch this kid. I hope the staff is on him. Plus he’s 6’6” just like McKee.
