It will be interesting to hear the Costello defenders after this game. He looked pedestrian.

Maybe, but if so what did Chryst look like against OSU?

Is it incompatible to think that they both looked pedestrian?

Chryst looked worse.  Costello had to start tonight.

Wonder if Leech has Falk throw  it for the win.

This drive is why declining to go for it was such a brobdingnagian error.

Shaw never met a punt he didn’t like.

We have all the talent on the field, and we are a mediocre team. Hmm who’s to blame?

If you think the team "had all the talent on the field" then you weren't looking at the OL at all. There's close to nothing coaches can do if the OL isn't blocking at all.

Re: WSU Game Thread - French Rage - 11-04-2017

Well, the O has been mostly nothing this game, but here's one last chance.  Here's to hope!

Re: WSU Game Thread - thunder_chik - 11-04-2017

Why do I feel this was a winnable game?  ::)

Re: WSU Game Thread - jacketree - 11-04-2017

I thought it was a 7-5 team coming in. Nothing in this game changes that View, so I guess you’re right.

Re: WSU Game Thread - martyup - 11-04-2017

All we need is a FG to get to OT.

This drive is why declining to go for it was such a of exceedingly large proportions error.

I don’t know about that.  The OL has a fair bit of talent, and had been playing well in a stretch of games from UCLA to Oregon.  It struggled tonight, but it is not a bad line.

Costello miracle with 35 seconds.

Is the team mediocre? It was rated about a 15-20 ranked team, it was projected to lose by about 3 points by gamblers and computers, and sure enough, it's going to lose by about 3 points. If you face a good team on the road, it's difficult.

Obviously the team has been quite inconsistent on both side of the ball. That's not ideal. Offensively, it's very young -- the youngest of the Shaw era, as far as I can tell. And of course personnel have been in and out.

Defensively, the team is biting the bullet on some dry years on line recruiting. Unfortunate, but a problem that appears to be attacked.

Vegas set the over under at 8 wins, I believe, and if it underperforms that it'll be by a win. Hardly an atrocity of coaching.

Re: WSU Game Thread - BostonCard - 11-04-2017

We need to advance about 70 yards.

Love not on the field for the first two plays?

Re: WSU Game Thread - washingtonismoney - 11-04-2017

Man Costello has been leaving some throws on the field. Just a very frustrating game. And as I write it, Costello throws the first pick of his career. Damn.

Dilly! I am not saying that Chryst should have started. I'm just saying that Costello is not the offensive wunderkind that some had made him out to be. (Yes, opponent matters, too.)

Oyyy....

Re: WSU Game Thread - dabigv13 - 11-04-2017

Yuck. Our OL did Costello no favors this game, but he certainly didn't have his best game here today.

Because we had great field position most of the game, WSU had long fields most of the game. Offense did no favors today, but you can't give up a TD on a 94-yard drive.
