RE: NBA Discussion - OutsiderFan - 03-10-2023

Hard to believe that even with Wiggins and GP2 the Warriors would have beat Memphis.

Out of their last 15 games, just 2 are against teams that aren't competing for playoff position, at Houston and San Antonio.  You could now make a case the W's won't even make the play-in, based on their last 3 games, and the they have 8 road games left.  Statistically, they will only win one of those games, maybe at Houston.  So even if they sweep at home, the best they could do in that scenario would be 41-41. Considering they have Milwuakee, Phoenix, and Philly as part of their 7 home games, it's doubtful they will sweep.

It looks like 44-38 is a lot more likely than even finishing 41-41, and that probably puts the W's in the lottery. I hope reporters start asking the players about if they realize they are flirting with being a lottery team.

Makes you wonder whether Draymond will exercise his $27.5 million player option next year. As a potent, defense-first, captain and cog on a championship team, his value is stratospheric. As a low-scoring average rebounder who is 34 years old and hasn't played more than 66 games in five years, his value is subterranean. I don't think he could get a three year contract with another team for $27.5 million, so like it or not, he'll be a Warrior next year.

Warriors are playing better today, slightly ahead of Milwaukee and at home of course.

More relevantly for this board, Brook Lopez is looking GOOD patrolling the paint for the Bucks.  He’s having a great year.

Of course the Dubs are making a lot of competent centers look good this year.

How do the Warriors lose consecutive games to 31-34 teams Thunder and Lakers, and beat the 48-19 Bucks in Milwaukee?  HOW?

The game was in SF and Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t play.

(deep sigh)

Okay, they're done.

RE: NBA Discussion - OutsiderFan - 03-14-2023

The Warriors win a typically inconsistent (up 25 to up 3), game agains the Suns at Chase, but at least they didn't fall behind by 10+ points. I don't think they trailed once in the game!

Now they have a 5-game road trip, in which I am going out on a limb and projecting them to go 2-3, same as previous last 5 games. I just can't believe they are going to continue being historically bad on the road and they usually rise to the occasion when backs are against wall for big games.

It sounds cliche, but the Clippers game on Wednesday is the biggest one of the season for the Warriors. It is for the season series tie-breaker, and the teams will enter tied at 36-33 in the standings for 5th, so it is effectively worth 2 wins for the winner and 2 losses for the loser. I have zero confidence the W's will win - it's a game I projected them to lose. - but man would it be a really big one to get.

RE: NBA Discussion - Mick - 03-14-2023

It's going to be a tough trip. You mentioned the Clippers. They have a back-to-back against the Hawks and Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday of this week. Grizzlies are 41-26, but Warriors match up well against them. THe Hawks are 34-35 and 8th in the East.

On Monday, they will have their third game in four days against the 16-52, last-place-in-the-West Rockets in Houston, then the 45-22 76ers in Philly.

I think they'll beat the Rockets. They will likely lose against the 76ers. The other three are winnable, but I doubt the W's will be favored in any of them.

RE: NBA Discussion - cardcrimson - 03-14-2023

In his post game chat yesterday, Curry was laughing when asked about the five game road trip and their chances. He basically said, we have no idea what's going on. . . .

13 games left. Five at home, eight on the road. 4-1 and 2-6 leaves them two games over 500, and perhaps in the sixth spot, pretty much were they are now.

RE: NBA Discussion - Mick - 03-14-2023

Any sign of Wiggins on the horizon?

RE: NBA Discussion - bl82 - 03-14-2023

Does anyone know what exactly the story is with Wiggins?

RE: NBA Discussion - OutsiderFan - 03-14-2023

The only people who know about Wiggins either write checks for or cash large ones from the Warriors.

Typically in such situations there is all kinds of speculation to fill the void, but in this case I've not even seen much speculation at all. It's a real mystery what is going on with him.

Before he plays games, he's gonna need a week of scrimmages to get the rust off, as he has not been with the team since his leave started. You'd think Wiggs would need to play the last 5 games at least to be playoff ready, so if he's not back by like April 1, that looks unlikely. The play-in is from April 11-14 and the playoffs start April 15. Time is ticking.

RE: NBA Discussion - OutsiderFan - 03-15-2023

A fascinating read. Basically says the Warriors' road woes are a product of a statistical anomaly. Hard to believe, but that's what all the evidence seems to suggest!

RE: NBA Discussion - cardcrimson - 03-18-2023

Here's a statistical anomaly, 136 to the Clips and 127 to the Hawks. . . .

RE: NBA Discussion - OutsiderFan - 03-18-2023

Pretty impressive -30 for Klay Thompson tonight in Memphis, as the Warriors extended their road bender to 11 games.

Most observers predicted a win in Houston, but the Rockets have beaten the Celtics, Lakers, and
Pelicans in their last 3 home games. A 0-5 trip that culminates in a loss in Dallas is now on the table.

That would leave the W”s 36-38 before they host the Sixers next Friday. If they don”t win that game, they will finish under .500 and could still be a lottery team, though the unfortunate Anthony Edwards injury will really hurt T-Wolves.

I watch a lot of games and agree the eye popping scoring difference home:away doesn’t seem to fall within “bad shooting luck”

I read the article and get the stats, but honestly that makes me question the stats. On the road it seems we give a lot less effort at POA, leading to more penetration and kick outs to open shooters. Shooting is self reinforcing as well, give guys a chance to get rolling on easy shots and they may start hitting the tough shots as well.

RE: NBA Discussion - OutsiderFan - 03-20-2023

Some how, some way, the Warriors are -10.5 at Rockets tonight.

Does anyone think the W's will cover that number? Iron Man Kevon Looney is Questionable with back spasms, and they are still favored by 10.5?!?!?!

ESPN's terrible prediction algorithm has the W's with a 70% chance to win, but I just don't see it. Maybe the thinking is Klay Thompson will redeem himself after such a piss poor game in Memphis, and Curry will also not be as worn out as we was in Memphis. But still, road adversity has proven to be insurmountable for the 2022-23 GSW's.

Or maybe the Rockets will rest their stars on second of back-to-back hoping to not get too far ahead of Detroit in the Wembamyama sweepstakes...
