This isn't quite like Signing Day 2012, but still a big day for Stanford Football. Can't wait to see who commits next. (I'm looking at you two, Misters Schultz and Solomon.)

Nifae Lealao is supposed to announce next month. Schultz has said he's taking official visits and I think Thomas will too just in case he gets dinged by admissions.

Messed around and got a triple double.

Hey - 08-10-2013
Next on the wishlist are Schultz, Thomas, Lealao......and Dickerson. All but Thomas have openly stated at one time or another that Stanford is their favorite. :-)
In a funny twist, Dickerson's teammate, Holuba, also has Stanford in his final four. (That has to be a tough high school to run outside on.)
Including Fanaika, that makes 16 so far. Interesting to see how the last 4+ spots get taken. I'd love to hear how the coaches figure out how to decide between all the other kids out there who have offers.

We're definitely taking more than 20 in this class. Guys will leave early for the NFL or not get invited back for a 5th year or take a medical retirement. There is definitely room for the 4 you named plus Casey Tucker. So assuming we land all 5 and the current 16 all get admitted, we could still take 2-3 like Holuba, Terrence Alexander, Jesse Burkett, etc.

I think we'll definitely have a bigger class than 20, 24 seems like a pretty fair projection. I really hope Holuba isn't on the outside looking in. He's my favorite LB prospect of the bunch. Here was my class projection from the other day not sure how the kicker fits in
(08-06-2013, 06:17 AM)AthleticsDynasty link Wrote:1 QB - Chryst
3 RB - Marx, McCaffery and a power tailback I think Downs goes else where and we get someone who emerges in the fall
1 WR - Sims
1 TE - Schultz
3 OL - Hall, Tucker and Fanaika
4 DL - Thomas, Nifae, Phillips and a nose tackle prospect, probable someone who isn't on the radar right now
3 OLB - Leach, Dickerson and Holuba
3 ILB - Perez, Alfieri and Okreke
5 DB - Franklin, Simmons, Holder, Murphy and Tucker
What do you guys think?

Scout article said the kicker was a preferred walk-on.

On 247, the class is currently ranked 22nd with the prospect for significant improvement pending admissions. Here's how it compares to previous classes:
2002: 18
2003: 23
2004: 36
2005: 35
2006: 41
2007: 56
2008: 27
2009: 22
2010: 22
2011: 22
2012: 7
2013: 51

The class of 2002 was ranked 18th? Wow - and Stanford's total record from 2005 through 2005 was , what, 15-29? (And for those who stayed five years, yikes, 16-40...) A lot of talent went to waste during those years, thanks to execrable coaching. :'(

The 2009 class should go down as the best in school history.

2009 class is awesome, particularly since so many decided to stay for their final year of eligibility. I hope each of their succeeding classes contends for the greatest in history. In recruiting terms, I think the best is yet to come.

If we have classes better than 09 then we'll be unstoppable like Miami in the 80s or Nebraska in the 90s

The 2002 recruiting class had star power at the top: Trent Edwards and Julian Jenkins were 5-star guys. That probably boosted the rating of the class.

By the way, Stanford has had a linebacker in the SPARQ top ten in two consecutive years. (Kalambayi, 2013; Alfieri, 2014, assuming he comes.)
When they get to Stanford, they will immediately become slower.*

Ten minutes of fun:Alfieri and Okereke - Redrum - 08-11-2013
Yes, yes, I know these are
highlight vids, but just in case I missed them posted elsewhere here, a glimpse at what we hauled in on Saturday. I was in the N.C. backwoods and missed all the fun.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/762028/joey-alfieri Love kid's motor. Love even more the Duck fans figuring it was only the late offer that made him take the Stanford offer. Who wouldn't want to join the Duck's police lineup or just hang around their new Death Star athletic facility? Nice little Schadenfreude bonus.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/167872/bobby-okereke (
Lots of unblocked or poorly blocked plays while he was on defense, but the offense TE highlights show his athleticism doesn't depend on pathetic opposing players.

Most Duck fans I've read are talking about the late offer not to denigrate him but their coaching staff -- they've felt for a while, dating back to Kelly, that Oregon waits too long to offer obviously worthy players. In this case, you've got to agree: what, exactly, took them so long? Really athletic linebacker in your backyard? Nah, I don't want one of those.

We see this happen every year, and we benefit. The big state school thinks the local kid will commit no matter what (Harrison Phillips), even trying to make them walk-on (Ben Gardner).
