The local press weighs in on Davis Mills - JohnR34231 - 08-14-2016

Definitely sounds like the type of QB Shaw appreciates. You see why he was offered.

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 08-14-2016

Wow.  The 2016 class might be on par with 2012's class.

Sara Little announced her son's acceptance over Twitter.

What is the source for Foster's admission status? (If from behind a paywall, it should not be posted here)

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 08-15-2016

Looks like Homes has not closed the door on Stanford, according to what I'm reading lately?

Re: Class of 2017 - amartinsu13 - 08-15-2016

I think if Sarrell and Little both commit (especially at the same time), it will build brobdingnagian momentum for this class.  That might re-spark interest from guys like Jaelan Phillips at UCLA or Darnay Holmes.

Re: Class of 2017 - larkinforever - 08-15-2016

I thought others had intimated Holmes dropped Stanford due to possible admissibility (or similar) concerns rather than anything football related, and if so wouldn't it stand to reason that an elite Stanford '17 class wouldn't change his interest?

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 08-16-2016

A couple things...

On Darnay Holmes... the issue was reported to be his desire to enroll in January, which Stanford doesn't allow.  Aside from the fact all the reports of late still have him considering Stanford, Shaw said something interesting in his post-practice interview yesterday when asked about KJ Costello.  He talked about how far ahead Costello is in his learning curve, in part because the True Frosh attend Spring practice, get videos of practice, , coaching notes, playbooks, and can use the VR system too, on top of the fact they can start practicing informally when they get on campus in Summer, and we've already heard about how Turley gives them workout and probably nutrition plans after signing.  It basically sounded like an advertisement for how there really isn't much of a reason to pass on Stanford to enroll early at another school.

On Jaelen Phillips... There is a lot of talk about how many UCLA de-commits there have been, how Mora wasn't around for their Summer camps, rumors of him having an eye on the NFL, and it has only been hightened with the current Mique Juarez situation, a 2016 5-star LB recruit who isn't practicing and apparently wants to transfer.  Perhaps the combination of too much drama in
Westwood, combined with Stanford's sure footed program, will make him flip to Stanford?  I have no idea if he is filling out a Stanford application or taking AP classes, but if he is, the plot could thicken.

He is taking 4 AP classes this semester. Let's hope he does fill out an application and keeps the door wide open should he have a change of heart or mind.

oof.  Davis Mills to have knee surgery.  May not be able to play this year.

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 08-16-2016

If it's 3-4 months, it's probably an MCL or cartilage tear.  Hope it is the former and not the latter.

Re: Class of 2017 - CornFed - 08-16-2016

The coach goes to great lengths to tell the reader what didn't cause the injury, which makes me immediately curious what the cause was.  Perhaps something embarrassing?  Tripped going up the stairs?  Or maybe he was just sitting and watching TV and the injury just spontaneously occurred.

I don't remember if it was even revealed what the specific injury is.  3-4 months of recovery time suggests a pretty serious issue.  Will there be the possibility of residual damage?  Will he be able to be as effective?  This seems like a matter of potential concern for the player and for Stanford.

Obviously unfortunate, but other highly touted Stanford QB recruits (think Elway or Randy Fasani) have suffered high school knee injuries and have gone on to do just fine (Elway more than just fine). Hopefully Mills will follow the same pattern.
I agree that it is a bit strange that all the emphasis was placed on what didn't cause the injury rather what did cause it. You wonder what the point of that was. Privacy issues?

Awwww, now they're just showing off - Redrum - 08-20-2016

I've blotted taking the SAT out of my mind.  Good enough for Stanford but nothing like taking the SAT in German, French and English.  These kids were made for Stanford.  I mean that.  Their German-speaking mom and focused dad made these kids in all senses of the word.

Re: Class of 2017 - FarmBoy - 08-20-2016

I'm wondering if the reporter misunderstood that they took the SAT II tests for French and German. Those are subject area tests, not the full SAT in foreign language. Still impressive, but makes more sense. Why would they take the SAT in a second language?

I teach abroad, and many of my students take the SAT for their applications to schools in the US.  The SAT is only offered in English.

Socalfan1, where and what do you teach?
