Giants hired Blue Jays assistant hitting coach Hunter Mense as their head hitting coach, per The Athletic. Last year, the Blue Jays only struck out 1,099 times. The Giants have been over 1,300 strikeouts five seasons in a row. The Blue Jays led the majors with a .265 BA and had the third highest OPS at .760. They were 29th in most strikeouts and had the best strikeout-to-walk ratio in the major leagues last season.

Assistant hitting coach Oscar Bernard will return, along with quality control coach Taira Uematsu and bullpen catcher Eliezer Zambrano.

Mense played at UMissouri and was coached by Vitello there.

RE: SF Giants 2025 - Mick - 12-03-2025

According to Andrew Baggarly, the Giants have checked in on Kyle Schwarber (one of the top free agent hitters), but will not pursue any nine-figure free agents, for the following reasons:

- Adames, Devers, Chapman and a $133 million commitment to their top six players in 2026.
- They have just $60 million to spend on the rest of their roster if they want to stay under the luxury tax like they have seven of the past eight seasons.
- $17 million deferred payment owed to Blake Snell next month for his single season in San Francisco
- Manager costs: $4 million owed to BoMel, $3.5 million owed to Vitello in 2026 and $3 million owed to UTennessee for his buyout.
- SFG is selling 10% of the franchise to P/E firm Sixth Street to use the cash for stadium upgrades.

The dizzying SF Giants rumor mill makes no sense right now

The deal with Sixth Street was completed last March.  The 10% will be used for stadium and other real estate upgrades (i.e Mission Rock].

Darned tootin'  Very glad to see Jeff Kent elected to the HoF. Seemed absurd to me that the career leader in home runs by a second baseman wasn't in the HoF...the career leaders of ALL other positions are already in the Hall of Fame, except for the PED players.

Kent and my brother in law tried out for the Cal team at the same time. Personality-wise, he was the same at Cal as he was for the Giants, much like Bonds was at Arizona State, the Giants and Serra HS, per a friend of mine who played with Bonds.

They have been in the Top 5 of the draft twice since 2000.

Let’s hope that Buster can find another Buster…..
