One of the greatest axioms in basketball is if you can’t stop the other team from beating you off the dribble you have no chance to win. The Warriors are getting killed off the dribble by the Kings.
The W’s margin for error is way too small for them to be able to overcome 22 turnovers like in Game 2.
The bench was atrocious minus GP2. Kuminga played just 4 mins and was -10. Poole was abysmal. Just 4 pts in 16 minutes on 1-7 and 2 FTs. DDV -13 and didn’t even take a shot.
And Draymond Green. Just another dumb overreaction that hurt his team and very well may have cost the W’s a chance to win.
If the key stat in Game 2 was Kings 17 ORebs, in Game 2 it was Warriors just 18 assists. I had a feeling they were in trouble when they had only 8 assists at halftime. The Kings are suppose to be terrible on defense and the W’s are making them look great with their careless and foolish play.
Curry's outside shot wasn't falling. Presumably, they'll get some home officiating for games 3 and 4. Personally, I would not have given Draymond a Flagrant 2. If someone grabs your leg as you're trying to move forward, it's just not your fault if you have to step on the dude to avoid falling over. That was one of those 'reputation' calls in my opinion.
Dubs needed a second big body to guard Sabonis, who gets away with a lot of stuff inside.

This is not a mystery. The Kings are a young team with energy. The Warriors have all-world talent with the ability to win, but they are old and tired, and right now they are playing like it.

Sometimes "experienced" is just a euphemism for old and last night the Warriors played old - definitely not like the veteran team. (Turnovers, pressing/overplaying, poor 4th quarter play, erratic defense, lost their cool in crunch time, etc).
I keep waiting for them to press the mythical switch as they did last year but if they don't do so on Thursday then time has ran out on their NBA dynasty and I will expect uncomfortable offseason moves.

I not gonna condone Green’s actions, but the NBA just got played by an actor. The Warriors have to be incandescent pissed off. Sabonis grabbed Green’s ankle to stop a fast break with the Warriors storming back in the 4th quarter, and then acted like a soccer player feigning injury to draw a foul, trying to make it look worse than it was.
The replay made clear Green didn’t put all his weight on Sabonis (most weight on leg not on chest) and that it was a pro wrestling stomp, like Green purposely didn’t put all his weight on him. He was kicked out of game and Warriors lost. That was the punishment. A further suspension makes it punitive and is rewarding Sabonis for being a bitch trying to steal momentum from opponent in a very non-basketball act, baiting Green into doing something like he did.
Absurd.

No, my post is 100% factually on the bullseye. I just watched JJ Redick on ESPN's First Take say essentially exactly what I said, plus add on more that is also 100% fact and further supports my statement. That is Sabonis and the Kings have been goading Draymond through 2 games and not having fouls called against them. He said it appears the NBA is allowing the Kings to get away with far too much through two games, and added he is NOT someone who ever complained about officiating, adding this is the first time he believes he has. And the idea that Draymond deserves a suspension because of "who he is," is all but admits he has a target on his back and is held to a higher standard that others.
In Game 1, the Warriors were down one in final minute. Curry grabbed a rebound. What did Sabonis do? He pulled Draymond to the floor. Then, when Draymond tried getting up to join the play - again with the Warriors down 1 point with the ball attempting to take the lead and less then 24 seconds left on clock - Sabonis wrapped his arm around Green's chest. No foul was called, and Andrew Wiggins missed a wide open corner 3.
Draymond Green is a fiery and emotional player who wouldn't be a 4-time NBA champion if he didn't play the way he does. He's never hurt anyone and the idea that Sabonis has a bruised sternum and is "Questionable" for Game 3 is just Kings gamesmanship. If the NBA was credible, Sabonis would be suspended for Game 3 because he knowingly poked a bear.
You really should watch JJ Redick's comments on this matter.

It was a BS ejection and an even more BS suspension. His ankle is grabbed and he stumbles. You can see with his next move he purposely does everything he can NOT to land on Sabonis after the so-called-stomp step.
RE: NBA Discussion -
Leftcoast - 04-19-2023
Love my Dubs but Green put some extra oomph in that stomp. And then jumped on a chair to incite the crowd, singled out fans to specifically yell at, and played up the confrontation for the five minutes it took to do the video review… All with the league commissioner sitting in the fourth row in front of the show not to mention a national TV audience (who were also shown the league commissioner in audience).
I suspect this second act earned him the suspension.
Maybe this is all just “who Draymond is” but at the very least it was unwise. It also most probably made this a league issue and forced the NBA to act.
Come on Dray, you’re too important to this team and to this season to provoke the league into action like this. If Sacramento was trying to “poke the bear” it worked. More specifically YOU let it work.

As for my opinion, Green has a history of cheap shots. So, sure he’s looked at more closely. He’s earned that “right.” I also don’t doubt that he was “goaded.” He should be smart enough on the court (he is a very bright guy) to know he’s being goaded and not allow it to happen. Instead, he takes actions that are detrimental to the team and in fact selfish.
He stomped on a guy. Now I don’t think you know how hard he stomped because I don’t think it was your chest that he stomped on.
If the NBA suspended guys for “poking a bear” they would be playing at the end of the day with ball boys. Woofing, getting in peoples face, etc. is commonplace every minute stuff in the NBA. Unfortunately, Green takes it to an extreme and loses his cool at times leading to things like this. But I don’t know if there’s anybody that loves to “poke the bear“ more than Green. Opinions made, with reasons why they are most likely true.
"Sabonis acted like a soccer player feigning injury to draw a foul, trying to make it look worse than it was."
Did he continue playing the rest of the game? Yes, he did. If a foot really stomped on him to injure, he wouldn't have continued playing and at minimum would have been taken to locker room for further evaluation., which he was not.
"it was a pro wrestling stomp, like Green purposely didn’t put all his weight on him."
The replay from the baseline makes it clear Draymond put more weight on his left leg than his right when he pushed his foot on Sabonis. I happen to be caring for a stroke survivor for the last several months. Every day I assess weight bearing on each leg so can recognize it rather easily now. So it is clear Green intentionally held back and what he could have done.
"A further suspension makes it punitive and is rewarding Sabonis for being a bitch trying to steal momentum from opponent in a very non-basketball act (grabbing leg with both arms)
, baiting Green into doing something like he did."
The NBA's statement makes it clear the punishment is punitive because it tries to rationalize a punitive punishment. And JJ Redick's comments demonstrate Sabonis was absolutely doing things that are not allowed in the rules. You can argue he wasn't trying to get Green to react and get tossed, but what would be the motivation otherwise for tackling and holding him down as in Game 1, grabbing his leg, and bumping into him on baseline (the time Green was called for the foul until rescinded after a Kerr challenge) as in Game 2?
You know who Green is. You know how he reacts. What other explanation is there to be doing these things specifically to him?
It all adds up to the specific bolded points I made technically being opinion, but being backed by very strong support for them in fact being true.
If Green put all his weight on Sabonis, he should have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs. That is an opinion.

If Green put all his weight on Sabonis, he should have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs. That is an opinion.
The only “facts” are:
1. Sabonis grabbed Greens leg
2. Green responded by stomping (to what degree is a question) on Sabonis.
3. Sabonis received a flagrant 1
4. Green received a flagrant 2.
5. Green was ejected. Sabonis continued to play.
6. Green has been punished before for similar acts.
7. Green has been suspended for game 3.
The rest is opinion. We disagree.
RE: NBA Discussion -

It is perfectly clear from the replays that Green's apparent stomp did not put any meaningful weight on Sobonis. He pulled it back instead of actually completing the stomp. He then "stepped on" Sabonis the same way we pretend stepped on each other as kids, by hopping with the other foot to take the pressure off of the foot on the person. Sabonis pulled a pure soccer player move and acted like he had been stabbed. I would pay good money to see the supposed contusion that makes Sabonis questionable for the game on Thursday.
That being said, I am pissed at Green for even engaging in the fake stomp. He is rightly under more scrutiny because he has earned it by sometimes behaving like an idiot who hurts his team. Even he admits that he cost the team the championship in 2016. I don't think this team is remotely close to winning a championship this year and agree that the suspension is excessive. However, I can understand that there is support for it based on Green's history.
I hope the Warriors can straighten things out at home. I also hope that they can win the series but my expectation is that the Kings will take it.

He stomped on the guy. No matter what precipitated that, he should be suspended and longer than one game. It was a stomp. I'm a big, big Draymond fan and still can't believe it's only one game.
I know it's going to raise consternation on a Bay Area-centric board but the stomp is far more egregious than Dillon Brooks on Payton last year. Brooks committed a hard foul in transition, absolutely a flagrant 1. But the injury and subsequent (successful) lobbying by Kerr about "breaking the code" resulted in his suspension. If Payton isn't injured on the play it's a flagrant 1 and we move on. But Kerr acted like his career was over and it was made into a suspension.
If every hard foul in transition is a suspension then the game changes a lot, especially in the playoffs. I think Draymond and Dillon are both players who live on the edge and I love them for it. Years ago I was shooting from the floor and witnessed Draymond achieve one of the most incredible feats I've ever seen in my sports-filled life: a triple-double WITHOUT points as one of the categories. But he stomped on a guy. I don't understand how that's defensible, no matter the force.

Yes, it's possible for the punishment to be excessive and also wish Draymond didn't respond the way he did.
There are many, many lines of grey between the black and white of acceptable and unacceptable. Like, you can drive 70 in a 65 zone. You might get away with 80, but 100 is non-negotiable punishment.
Green could have responded to the leg grab by spilling onto the floor and rolling over a couple times, grabbing his ankle like a soccer player, but that's not how he is wired.
For the record,
Sabonis was not called for a foul when he deliberately grabbed Green's ankle with both arms. Sabonis was assessed a technical only after replay review. That's what is inexcusable. Maybe if Sabonis was whistled for fouling Green when he did, Green wouldn't have reacted as he did. Green knows to stop when the whistle blows. There was no whistle until Green put his foot on Sabonis. The ref in effect said "it's OK for him to grab your ankle with both arms." The ref let Sabonis poke the bear and then the NBA got upset when the bear reacted.
* I can't recall anyone ever getting a serious injury - anything that forced a player to miss a game - as a result of Draymond Green actions. Compare this to Dillon Brooks flagrantly fouling Gary Payton 2 in last year's playoffs, leading to a broken wrist, and almost kept him out of the Finals where without him the Warriors don't win. Brooks missed 1 game.
