I always thought one of Harbaugh's biggest strengths when he came to Stanford was the great assistants he hired, guys with impressive coaching résumés. I thought it was a great sign that they were willing to work for him. Shaw seems to be continuing to keep a strong staff despite the number of coaches who have gone on to bigger gigs.

Why call a timeout there? Why why why.
Yikes is a shithead. Just go down with some dignity.

Before we get too high and mighty, recall that Harbaugh called time out with 6 seconds left losing 45-16 to USC. Grant it, we had possession of the ball, and wound up scoring to make the game 45-23, but still, we could have just run into the line and gotten out of there. Dykes was sending a message to his team.

Yikes is now 0-9 vs Pac-12 CA teams, and nearly every game has been a complete blowout.
If Stanford is the King of Cali, what does that make Low APR U?

0-7 you mean? Though at the current rate 0-9 at year's end wouldn't be shocking.

They do have a win against Sacramento State, so they aren't a total oh-fer California.

While browsing the California golden blogs comments for schadenfreude, I came across an absolutely delightful fact regarding cal's position among the California schools: "this makes 57 consecutive years that we haven't beaten our three California rivals in the same season. Sick of it." I can't decide whether I like that comment more than the following: "maybe we can hire Shaw because Dykes isn't the answer."

So what would we expect to happen if Big Game is played at night and C'al scores fewer than 30 points?

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they finish 6-6, lose their bowl game, and it wouldn't surprise me if Yikes either leaves on his own or gets fired. Without Goff next year they are gonna suck once again. And it makes me smile 8)
So horribly overrated. Still lacking a quality win in the Yikes era.
I don't think there's any chance c*a*l goes 6-6
They showed they're not a dominant team, but that wasn't a terrible team either last night.
Hovering around the top 25 in a tough pac12 is not unthinkable. They should come right up there if they win their next, and I'd say they have a decent chance on any team that doesn't have a dominant line presence (hopefully us).
ucla and Mora needed this game desperately and they played like it at the Rose Bowl, it shouldn't be a brobdingnagian surprise.
This game points to pac12 parity with a hint of Stanford being a standard deviation away (if it weren't for that NW game, the hint would not be nearly that subtle).

Yeah, it seems like every time a Pac-12 team gets beat by a couple of TD's or so we get a barrage of posts talking about how terrible they are. More likely they just had a bad game (like we did against NW).

Cal's schedule is rough the rest of the way outside of Oregon State which would get them bowl eligible. Other games are U*S*C, at Oregon, at Stanford, and Arizona State. Final game against ASU will be big for getting a better bowl game. I won't put my money on them getting to 7 wins.

I'm trying to look at the parallels between Yikes and Harbaugh. On paper, is Ca'l behind where Stanford was in Harbaugh's third year? We were 8-4 regular season and I bet Ca'l gets to that, if not 7-5. It's reasonable to say that despite similar records, Harbaugh and Stanford had some real quality wins in '09 such as against SC and Oregon, which Ca'l lacks. But we also fell on our faces a couple of times against Wake Forest, Arizona and C'al. And the Achilles heel for Stanford that year was also our defense. Perhaps it takes a little longer to rebuild on that side of the ball.
I think anyone saying that Yikes can't take a team to the Rose Bowl based on his performance this season lacks perspective. Everyone predicted Stanford would decline when Toby left, but it didn't happen. I'll wait to woof until after BG.

One thing I find amusing about C'al fans' love of Goff and disdain for Hogan is that they credit all of Hogan's wins and stats to a great team around him. Meanwhile, how many fewer yards and TDs would Goff have if he wasn't throwing it to the like of Lawler and Treggs. Those guys turn bad throws into TDs.
Re: Today in opponents - Cardinal96 - 10-23-2015
After seeing us lose to Northwestern and Cal go off to a 5-0 start, there were rumblings among their fanbase that this was their year. The UCLA game nicely put them back in their place. The bear cub is hiding behind the bushes and yelping at us from the sidelines.

At least for the most part, the folks saying Yikes can't get a team to the Rose Bowl are the bare fans. Folks here are mostly amused by the schizophrenic nature of the folks over at BareInsider. That doesn't really qualify as woofing.
Of course there has been plenty of that shizophrenic thing on Stanford boards as well.

Excepet Harbaugh did it with a redshirt freshman QB who beat out a returning starter and was only going to get better, while Cal is doing it with an experienced three-year starter who everyone expects to go to the NFL after this year. Our all-everything running back was also coming back after the Sun Bowl year. The trajectory after the Sun Bowl was still up. By this point in Harbaugh's tenure, our offensive line was already one of the best in the conference... Did you see Cal's OL last night? Is Anyone predicting that Cal will make it to a New Years six bowl next year? Yeah, me neither.
Most people think this will be Cal's high water mark.

It would be tough to find a worse OL in all the Power 5 conferences than what Ca.l is throwing out there. But I personally think the scheme is as much to blame as the personnel per se. Their OL never get in a three-point stance and retreat on virtually every snap. They never get to fire off and hit anyone. Stanford OL must get the willies watching Ca.l on offense. I've watched Baylor, and though their OL get in two point stances, they also do in fact get in three point stances as well. Being in a two point stances all the time prevents OL from being aggressive. They try to create running lanes with wide line splits, but by retreating on every snap, it's easy for quick DL to penetrate the gaps.
I don't mind the spread offensive philosophy, but I can't stand the Ca.l offensive line technique.

Whoops on the all-everything back.
And mid-2009, no one was predicting Stanford would make a BCS Bowl at the end of 2010. What was accomplished in 2010 was really quite remarkable.
