Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - CornFed - 12-27-2015

Well, whatever the reasons, the powder blue teddy bruins broke the PAC-12's undefeated string in bowl season.  A pox on them.

Not getting excited about playing someone - JohnR34231 - 12-27-2015

That was the excuse we always used to get when we lost to SJS, and frankly I got a little tired of it.

IMHO, good teams don't lose to inferior teams because they can't get excited about the game. They suck it up and do what they have to in order to win.

That all said, show me an 8-4 team excited to play a 5-7 team in a bowl game.  That's not happening.  Despite the fact Nebraska lost 4 games on the final play, there was no way UCLA's team was super excited to play that game.  And I'm sure playing it at the site of the Pac-12 CG (where they wanted to be) didn't help matters much either.

More like Mac Brown than Mark Richt.  No one ever did less with the talent Brown had.

JPRI, that's great to say, it feels like a truism.  But in point of fact, it is not uncommon for very strong teams to hit emotional lows when they play against teams they view as inferior.  And the double whammy happens when you get a team that is conversely sky-high, that feels it has something to prove...like a 5-7 Huskers team that would be 9-3 save for last plays.  And factor in a true frosh quarterback and -- let's just say it --  a coaching gap, and a whole lotta factors were pointing to Nebraska.

Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - CornFed - 12-27-2015

Just had to say, I watched the whole Iowa/Nebraska game.  I commented to friends that Nebraska's QB was the MOST inaccurate passer I had ever seen for a P5 team.  It was so bad, it couldn't have all been due to it being just a bad day.  Watching him vs. UCLA I was astounded.  I presume I saw him on a relatively bad day vs. Iowa and on the best day of his life vs. UCLA.

Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - thunder_chik - 12-27-2015

Well, I'm glad they lost.  My dad was from Nebraska, and I think UCLA are a bunch of prima donnas.  Huskers deserved the win.  And I loved that at least one article mentioned that Nebraska "took a page from the Stanford playbook" to get it.

Isn't that the truth!  We are reaching the point where there is no other team in the country as closely identified with power running, so much so that we are the premier example to which all others are compared.  After coming of football age under Walsh 1, this is still taking me some time to get used to.

Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - Leftcoast - 12-27-2015

Let's not forget that two of those San Jose St losses happened during Stanford Rose Bowl years.  Sometimes really good teams lose to highly motivated underdogs.

Plunkett's Rose Bowl bound team lost to C.al, as my bear alum boss predicted.

Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - BostonCard - 12-29-2015

Cal is up 21-14 on Air Force.  The Bears are having their way statistically with the overmatched Falcons, but a turnover and a failed fake field goal is keeping AFA close.

28-14 now.  AFA not doing anything to stop Goff.

Anyone have a birth date for AFA tailback Timothy McVey?  He's a sophomore, which means he was likely born around 1996.  I have a hard time believing any American named McVey (or McVeigh) born after 1995 would be named Timothy.

Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 12-29-2015

Goff 14/21, 273 yards, 4 TD.  Cal up 35-21 with 2:00 left in the half.

If this is indeed his last college game, he's certainly going out in style.

Uh, wow.  That is an, ahem, interesting parenting choice right there.

According to this article from the Colorado Springs Gazette, he was born eight months before Tim McVeigh bombed the Oklahoma City Federal Building.

Glad to see cal isn't pulling a UCLA.

That's mighty unfortunate.  Thanks, Yvonne.

That helps a little.  I suppose.  I can see not formally changing the name at that point, but I sure as heck would have called my kid by his middle name at that point, if only to save my child from the verbal abuse this guy must have received.

Anyone else getting a little tired of the announcers fawning over Goff? I know I am.

I don't mind the praise.  The constant "And this is why he's going to be a first round pick" has grown tired though.

That said, I hope Dykes keeps the pedal to the metal.  The occasional video game numbers are fun to see.

Re: PAC12 Bowl Update - JohnR34231 - 12-29-2015

The fact that I'm an Air Force fan (along with the fact he's a Weenie) might have something to do with it.
