Well, Wilner doesn't exactly say that. He says that Holder would be Stanford's second best (Bay Area's third best) prospect for the 2017 draft.

His rating of Stanford's top 2017 prospects:
1. McCaffrey
2. Holder
3. Kalambayi
4. Kaumatule
5. Caspers

He doesn't list Thomas because he says DL need more maturing than three years on campus/two years playing.

It's possible you don't know Wilner but if Holder comes out he will have a told you so. 😄

Re: 2017 commits, admits, and prospects - rcmiller - 05-06-2016

T Black has visited Stanford from Ct. twice in the past 2 months, and has an offer from Harvard. He seems to be a lock for Stanford. Neilon is ranked the #2 center in the country, far above Dalman. Should we take Dalman for sentimental reasons? (His father coached at Stanford)
How strange is it that we can turn down 4 star athletes and compete with the best football programs in the country, (Al,ND,USC,Mich,Oh St.) and still win. Ten years ago, you would have to search for obscure cable like Front Row Seats to watch Stanford football. (Assuming you were a masochist, and enjoyed humiliation.) Now, almost all Stanford games are televised on major TV stations! When Stanford (Men's) basketball comes on, I immediately change the station. Perhaps (hopefully) Haase will change  basketball the way Harbaugh changed football.

Yeah, but will YOU be saying "I told you so"?

Black's far from a lock -- I would guess Stanford isn't even in the lead.

In fact, he's explicitly stated that UCLA currently leads.

Dalman is an all time Stanford and 49er great, more than just coached at Stanford.  The coaches get to decide of course, not the rankings, but neither of your picks are in the top three and we may only take two OLs.

BC I was shocked to see Holder on that list of Wilner's so no won't say told you so.  :)

Chris Dalman was pretty incredible.

Looks like the list at the very top needs updating?

Can someone list the 11 written offers we sent out?

Sione is saying he won't go on a mission.

Re: 2017 commits, admits, and prospects - Hurlburt88 - 11-11-2016

We will clearly need young running backs, so I think good for the program (of course respect any and all personal decisions like this whether good or bad for the program).

Also, is McElwain a firm casualty at this point?  Or is there still a chance he successfully joins?

McElwain's been playing all year as a true freshman at Vanderbilt.

He apparently had quite a nice freshman season - playing in all 12 games, doing a great job lead blocking, catching some passes and even scoring 2 TDs (scoring in each of the last two games of the season).

Somehow that update on McElwain prompted me to look up the year for our departed friend Barry J. Sanders who moved on to Oklahoma State.

It appears that he had 82 yards on 26 carries, scored 2 TDs, 9 catches for 45 yards, and appeared in 10 of 12 games. I hope he found the experience rewarding.

Walker Little - Stanford_Cardinals - 12-13-2016

The 247 "Crystal Ball" for Little has moved toward Texas this week but is currently a coin flip--Little hasn't seemed to reveal all that much info so it seems like any predictions are basically guesswork. Should make for an interesting Friday.

With these sorts of commitments it can be fun to visit other schools' fan boards. Shaggytexas has a pretty unhelpful/sprawling/ridiculous 2017 recruiting thread but what really struck me is that the thread was created when Mack Brown was still the coach. The first Texas offer of the 2017 class was made to an 8th grade Dylan Moses (a 5-star Alabama commit).

Also, can someone explain to me why Tom Herman isn't just another iteration of Charlie Strong? They're both part of the Urban Meyer tree, both very successful at mid-major programs before going to Texas. Herman's Houston experience should provide help w/ recruiting but it's not like Strong was a poor recruiter.
