Great at Montana, and took Oregon St to the tournament this year for the first time in forever.
And he has at least one Stanford connection!
Tinkle would have been great if we'd fired Dawkins two years ago, but I can't imagine he would leave OSU for Stanford.

Danny Hurley coached a game at Stanford recently. He is a joke. Ranting and raving the whole time, no time for his team too busy yelling at the refs. No nuts and no dookie or dookie connections allowed.Â

If you want Stanford connections and a fairly lengthy record of success, you could do a lot worse than Kenny Ammann:

As for Turner, if we hire him, get ready for the onslaught from the B.ear commentariat [for hiring someone they turned down]:

If we're putting the bank back together, I vote Turner as head coach and bringing back Blaine Taylor as the associate head coach and then getting Collins to work with the big men.
If Mike is seen sneaking into practices wearing sweats and a whistle, it will be 1994 all over again. 8)

I have no interest in someone who has not been a successful head coach in college basketball. That rules out Collins and it also rules out Reveno.
There are plenty of mid-major head coaches who have taken at least one if not more teams to the big dance. Those are the folks I'd like to Muir start with.

It would have been much better for everybody's sake if things had worked out well. I'm sorry that didn't happen.
I don't feel bad about this but do feel bad for Dawkins and his stuff. They are good people, and I wish them well.

I understand your view, and I agree that Dawkins seems to be a good guy. But I draw the line at feeling sorry for him (or any other D-I coach who is fired). Dawkins has probably made around a million dollars a year for the last 8 years. If he has been smart with his money, he never needs to work again. If he decides he wants to stay in basketball, he will surely find a spot as an assistant coach, or maybe even a head coach at a small school. I feel sorry for most people who lose their jobs, but not millionaire coaches.
Also +1 on hiring a head coach and not an assistant. I don't want to have to wait through years of the next guy's learning curve.

I also think the new coach should try, if possible, to retain somebody from Dawkins' staff. You don't want to start recruiting from scratch.
