Stanford takes on the winner of #7 Miami and #10 Michigan on Saturday!

Re: WTennis vs Florida - cardfan77 - 05-19-2016

Because it was against  Florida, this win is so much sweeter.

Great job, Stanford and especially Taylor Davidson for the clinching point!  I can understand why she might have been a little nervous with 2 double faults when serving for the match.  My stomach was in knots just watching.

#2 seed Florida and #3 seed UNC - both gone.  UVA upset UNC earlier today.

Re: WTennis vs Florida - BostonCard - 05-19-2016

I'd be pissed if I were Florida that I had to match up with Stanford in the sweet sixteen.  We were underseeded.

The poor tosses caused by the A/C LOL

Re: WTennis vs Florida - ColoradoTree - 05-19-2016

Apropos of nothing, no-ad scoring is a travesty.  Yes, it speeds up matches and heightens the intensity by introducing a "winner take all" point in place of the requirement that you win by two, but at too high a cost.  Being at least two better than your opponent is foundational.  It's how you win games (by two points), and it's how you win sets (excepting a tiebreaker, where you at least still have to win by two points).  There are logical limits to this, of course, which is why the tiebreaker exists when players have demonstrated they're very evenly matched.  Anyone can get lucky and win a key point.  But going from deuce and having to win two key points in a row tests your mettle.

Games with multiple deuces are amazing theater, with the tension growing with each point.  The emotional lift from winning a long game is brobdingnagian, just as the disappointment from losing a multi-deuce game can eat at a player's psyche.  I'm sad to lose that in the college game.

No-ad scoring will in general hurt us: it is overall unfavorable for teams like us that are better (and better-conditioned) than their opponents

Holy smokes, awesome!  (I had to put out a fire at work...)  Go Stanford!  Way to put away the Gators!

(Erm, my second-level manager is a Gator, but I doubt he follows WTennis.)

The Cardinal will face tenth-seeded Michigan in the next round.  A double digit seed is guaranteed to advance to the semifinals.
