Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BobK - 05-23-2016

We have moved into 3rd.  Minus 5 on the day

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-23-2016

On fire! -6 for the day with about 2-4 holes to play.  One stroke back of USC for second place (UCLA is virtually uncatchable).

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - fullmetal - 05-23-2016

Birdies all over the back nine, awesome job :)  Let's hope the other teams aren't going to catch fire like Stanford did in the home stretch.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - Spiny_Norman - 05-23-2016

Stanford now in 2nd!  Shannon Aubert has been quietly improving and maturing.  Stanford has 4 solid players at the top of its lineup, all of whom are playing well this week.  Kersten again faltered down the stretch, +5 for the final 7 holes.  I am concerned for her stamina should Stanford play 36 holes tomorrow.  Keeping her blood sugar regulated could be a big challenge.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-23-2016

Nice!  We are killing it.  -8 for the day (best so far), and currently in second, three holes ahead of USC.

We just need to not get snakebitten by 18 again.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-23-2016

Props to Lauren Kim, who has birdied three of the last five holes, Aubert who hit birdie-birdie at 16 and 17 and Danielson who has a bogey free three-under par day.

We are a net eight under par since the 13th hole.  Fortunately, Sierra Kersten is absorbing all the bogies for the group (6 of them) and her score isn't going to count.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - fullmetal - 05-23-2016

Stanford at -9 for the day, just two back from UCLA.  Impressive!

There's a dogfight shaping up over the last qualifying spot.  Ok St. sits at #8 with +12 (total) through holes 15-18, but Oregon (+14), Northwestern (+14), and Arizona (+15) are within striking distance.  Oregon may be out of runway though, as they're playing holes 17-18 now.  Northwestern is through 15-18, and Arizona is through 12-14.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-23-2016

Quite the tale of extremes in the Pac-12.  Stanford (-9)  and UCLA (-6 through 14-17) killed it; Oregon (+8) and Arizona (+5) got killed.  Looking like 4 Pac-12 teams in match play; if things hold Pac-12 will have seeds 1-4.  If nothing changes, we will be playing USC (the one on the East Coast).

What happened to Oregon today?  Aren't they playing on their home course?

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - 2 for 2028 - 05-23-2016

279, best round posted for the entire tournament.

Tournament golf brings pressures that you don't have playing a casual round.  Also Casey Martin (Oregon men's coach) said on tv that the greens are running faster than usual (13+ on the stimpmeter) so that can have an impact too even if you know the course well.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - Canalejas - 05-23-2016

How are ties resolved in this tournament?

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - Spiny_Norman - 05-23-2016

"There will be a playoff following the final round of stroke play if needed to decide the eight teams advancing to the match play portion of the championship."

But I don't know how they break ties for seeding.  Maybe the team with the lower drop score gets the higher seed.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - fullmetal - 05-23-2016

I got a little curious--holy smokes, five of the seven UW women's golfers are internationals.  The two Americans are from CA and WA...everyone else an import  ::)

Four of UCLA's nine rostered women's golfers are internationals--three are included in their tournament lineup of five.  All seven of Duke's team are internationals though one prepped in San Diego.  Four of Ok. State's eight rostered golfers are internationals, and three are in their tournament five.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-23-2016

Wow, Oregon backs into the tournament as Oklahoma State falters down the stretch.  We should be guaranteed second or third, depending on what USC does in its last two holes.  It's two strokes back, so we are looking good for second, which means we will play South Carolina.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - Viking_Guy - 05-23-2016

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but hoping that today is an omen for tomorrow.

Oklahoma State was at +13, and #8 for the last spot in the match play field, one shot ahead of Oregon, and with their #1 playing hole 9 (they started on the back 9) as the only player still on the course from either team.

She triple bogeyed.

Ouch.  But hoping a similar fate awaits them tomorrow morning.

Arizona trying to rally to knock out the Quackers in the last few holes, currently 1 stroke behind with 4 players still on the course.

Stanford's 279 today low scoring round of the tourney.

I suggest following Lance Ringler on Twitter.  He is one of the college golf writers for Golfweek.  Once the coaches decide on the matchups for tomorrow, he will likely post them.

Doesn't Arizona still have a chance at taking the 8th spot and bumping Oregon out?

I guess the bogies were out there for the taking too. After being -6, Oklahoma St ended up +4.

It's a cruel game sometimes.

Indeed.  And South Carolina could implode as well...
