It's about time. The expectations for him were as high as they were for Kalambayi. Kalambayi blew up. Okereke, didn't. Seemed resistant to Turley's program at first. (Not behaviorally, just in physical results). Also didn't seem the instinctive, fast-twitch LB of his HS videos. Hope that's finally changed.

Kalambayi, Okereke, Barton, and Alfieri are the best athletes at LB excluding True Frosh Curtis Robinson. All were 4-star recruits, so it shouldn't be surprising if those guys end up being the starters or otherwise playing as much or more than anyone else at those positions. All told, Stanford has five 4-star recruits (Noor Davis the other) at LB and one 5-star.

That seems a little impatient for a guy who is now a football-sophomore. [He is a class behind Kalambayi]
It's true he didn't have a first year like Alfieri, who was a similarly ranked LB in the same class. But my impression was always that Okereke was more of a project. The stories were that he only started playing football his HS Junior year - and at Stanford moved to the inside.

I am not counting out Noor Davis. If healthy, his experience may win out. He has the tools and things may be clicking now that he is in his fifth year.

Given that all of the Pac-12 athletics websites look similar, I don't think it was a Stanford decision. But I agree the new format absolutely sucks

Totally agree, CT.
It takes some time to adjust to the speed at the college level. Okereke has natural talent, but it's likely that his football instincts have needed to catch up given he is relatively new to the game. Reading and reacting extremely fast, if not instinctually, is what I hope we see from him. Sure, we all want a Dave Wyman like LB from day one! You have to love the depth!

Okereke was also a little young for his class, he was only 17 when starting classes at Stanford.

What the gamblers think of the QB race*:
Keller Chryst (-425)
Ryan Burns (+300)

Why do they think this? No idea! It's just kind of fun, I suppose.

Is that really something you can place a bet on? The whim of a coach?

Only if you believe the two football players under consideration are identical. I think it's a bet on players given differences in public performance, background, team need, perceived capabilities...

I think it's just a bet. Any bet. Like people bet on the coin flip. It is probably based on nothing more than whim, or intuition. Does anyone here feel that they could assess where this QB competition stands before the season begins? I would think that for this to be anything other than even odds is nothing more than a hunch

Vegas doesn't care who becomes the starter, they care who the
public believes will become the starter -- and that is Chryst, apparently.

If you take Shaw at his word when he says he hasn't made up his mind yet and it will be whoever plays significantly better in training camp (and if nobody does they will both play) you wonder who he would bet on.

More on inside linebackers...
https://stanford.rivals.com/news/camp-early-look-inside-linebacker
Noor Davis not mentioned, but I'm not reading too much into that. Hansen seems open to rotating 6-7 guys, though he admits that once into the season the rotation will probably shrink a bit.
If I were to guess, based on all my observations, the pecking order might be something like:
1. Palma
2. Barton
3. Davis
4. Okereke
5. Perez
6. Jones
7. Branch
It seems it might make sense to rotate guys in pairs. Like, Palma/Barton play together, Davis/Okereke play together, Perez/Branch play together, and then Jones fills in where needed.
