I am apparently in the flock of sheep for this first prediction

Go card!

Not sure our offense is ready yet. Think we could sputter and have to kick field goals. Defense is tough but they are able to get a couple of drives close enough for their accurate kicker.

We have a new QB; not likely our O will be all that explosive in this game.  I think Shaw isn't concerned about sustaining the 30+ point streak and plans to play this game conservatively.  He will preserve CMac (won't play him the full game) and any trick offensive plays for the nationally televised game with you-know-who on September 17th.  Hope we see a lot of Love; hope our defense scores a TD.
BTW, really hope there's no jinx in playing our first game against purple and white Wildcats... gives me a case of the Willies.

Over on the ESPN game conversation the Cats fans are confident of a win.  ::)

They say they have the best defense in their conference and will shut us down.  :-\

They say that they have a better coach, and will shock us like NW did last season.  >:(

Okay, it's on bitches. ;)

Re: Stanford Kansas State prediction thread - Card Fan in OR - 08-28-2016

We dominate.

Offense barely notices it's a new year. Scores 34, but we ease off at the end.

Defense rounds into great shape, allowing 10.

Us, 34; them 10.

Re: Stanford Kansas State prediction thread - yvonne - 08-28-2016

I won't break my streak of not predicting a score, but here are my predictions:

1. Offense is less dynamic as new OL and QB become accustomed to playing in a real game.
2. Game is closer than the line.
3. Fans freak out, call for a QB replacement
4. Fans freak out, call for a head coach replacement.
5. Stanford plays another game in just over two weeks.

As for fans freaking out and calling for wholesale replacements, it doesn't take a lot.

Which, of course, was rather the point.

At any rate, I also expect that the offense will struggle to begin due to OL and QB issues. I just hope it's 2015 UCF struggles rather than 2015 Northwestern struggles.

Isn't that rather the equivalent of saying that the sun came up today?
Bravado ahead of the game seems to be what most sports fans do. That seems a little strange to me as I am typically very nervous before a game, even when we're favored by 30 points. Not quite at Teejers' level, but still nervous.

And you shouldn't mistake such bravado as actually being confident.

Well our coach is in the Hall of Fame and we do have a good defense and special teams.

I think I understand the reasons for optimism about the defense in Manhattan for this year, but it is not entirely clear based upon recent performance that you have a good defense.

KSU stats from 2015, national rankings in parentheses.

Pts/game allowed = 31.5  (93rd)
Yds/game allowed = 452  (106th)
Yds/play allowed = 6.24  (109th, tied)
Yds/rush attempt allowed = 4.41  (73rd)
Yds/pass attempt allowed = 8.2  (108th, 4-way tie0
PER allowed = 149.5  (113th)

I am sure you are looking for better numbers in 2016.

Hey CT, I think we talked this out before, but last year was an unprecedented disappointment due to injury. We lost two of our best DBs to injury in the first four games and had young players stepping in against a pass happy league. This article lays out why the K-State faithful are optimistic about our ability to defend the pass in 2016.

Which is exactly why I said I understand the reason for optimism about the KSU defense.

There is a difference between optimism and proven production. I am quite sure that in the back of your mind you are at least a little worried about how it is all going to turn out this year.
I am for my team - and they are currently ranked #8 and are coming off a #3 finish.
