Try looking at the new design on your phone and tablet.
So, it sounds like folks want the bricks back. It won't look exactly the same, but I'll toy around with some things. I won't take it down to do so.

The layout wastes a lot less space in IE (fairly similar to the old one) than in Chrome. It almost looks like Chrome is showing a mobile-optimized version of the page. All of this seems to corroborate the notion that things are still in flux. Patience seems warranted, as is appreciation for the admins who volunteer their time and effort to keep the site up and updated. That said, I do agree with whoever said a heads-up would have been nice.
EDIT: Sorry, it's not IE vs. Chrome. It's how wide the window is that switches between the two modes. Yvonne's reply above (while I was typing) seems to confirm the "mobile-optimizedness" of the layout.

I looked at it on my phone; that was the first inkling that things had changed. It looks like a "mobile design". It is easier to read, but wastes a lot of space on my phone, because people's information (including Avatar) is displayed above the message. So you can only see one, maybe two posts per screen of phone.
Yvonne, I am happy to offer initial feedback if you want it or to wait until you have everything in a more finalized form before commenting.

I don't know how many people commenting are familiar with web technologies, but what you see in the phone screen is about as good as it will get for a responsive web design. Keep in mind, this board front-end is a template. It isn't custom-made. Getting what you really want would require an experienced front end developer with good javascript skills.Â
Unless someone on the site with these skills wants to volunteer to build the pages in an idealized manner, it will cost a few thousand bucks to hire someone to do it. But even then, what Yvonne has chosen as a template might be better, A) because it's being used elsewhere and is being supported, and B) because it is possible whoever were to code up an alternative could do a worse job, and then it's money down the drain.
My opinion on this is to chillax. Everything new is a bit uncomfortable, but you get used to it and pretty quickly. I'd say wait a dew weeks and if you still are having issues with it, then maybe complain. But until then, just see if you can get acclimated to the new design.
I personally have been wondering when this site would get a mobile-friendly structure, so I'm happy with it ;)

Just noticed the + and - are back. It's called "reputation" and I don't know how it works because I already have +5 and -2. :-X
I notice I'm quite the popular poster around these parts.
I wonder what ferrari's would look like.

Ferrari's old posts show +40/-56.

The main thing is that I'm just happy this place exists. The powers that be can decorate it any way they like. For what it's worth, it looks nice and works fine.

Make the Cardboard great again! It might take me awhile to get used to this new layout on a pc, but it's much improved on mobile. I'm sure they're some bugs to get through but keep up the good work. I appreciate the work you went through. I know these projects aren't easy.

Yes, if you want feedback let us know Yvonne, otherwise I'll keep my mouth shut and just be happy the board is back. I was very confused last night.

Seems to have been designed by the same folks who designed the new GoStanford.com site... ::) I prefer information-dense layouts, personally. I agree with the less-empty-space philosophy :)
