Thankfully, for the most part we kept him contained, but you could see what scouts were impressed about.

In what-have-you-done-for-me-recently recency, I think people have to be less impressed about Taylor after this:

And they said Burns had problems taking snaps.

Kizer -- the next Tyrod Taylor.

I'm not sure whether you intended this as a favorable comparison or an unfavorable one.

Any Stanford fan who watched the Orange Bowl in person (Stanford vs. VA Tech) will remember Tyrod's performance in that game.  It was...less than impressive in its totality.  I never understood the appeal of Tyrod at the pro level.

Seems shortsighted to evaluate a player based on a single college game. Stanford had an outstanding defense that year, pressuring Taylor all night and sacking him eight times.

He was the ACC player of the year, throwing for 24 TD vs 5 interceptions. As a pro:

Last year he ranked 7th in the NFL in total QBR, 20 TD/6 int, 3,035 passing yards, 568 rushing yards.

This year he ranks 9th in the NFL in total QBR, 9 TD/2 int, 1,297 passing yards, 271 rushing yards.

NFL teams would be delighted if they drafted Kizer and he developed into "the next Tyrod Taylor".

But even after the brain fart, Taylor converted the following 3rd and 28 by running for 30+ yards for a first down. That drive somehow ended with a touchdown.

Regardless, Taylor seems to be a capable starting NFL QB. If Kizer is the next Tyrod Taylor (and drafted in the 3rd round or later), a team will be happy. However, if he's a first rounder, the team who drafts Kizer will want more than the "next Tyrod".

Ah. See when I hear Tyrod Taylor I think "Bills quarterback," and in that capacity he has proved more than capable.

Correct. That Tyrod Taylor is still alive makes him more impressive than your average QB, and that he's actually put up somewhat decent stats (7.46 YPA) makes him a candidate for sainthood.

These are the quarterbacks drafted in the first round in the last ten years:

Vince Young
Matt Leinart
Jay Cutler
Jamarcus Russell
Brady Quinn
Matt Ryan
Joe Flacco
Matthew Stafford
Mark Sanchez
Josh Freeman
Sam Bradford
Tim Tebow
Cam Newton
Jake Locker
Blaine Gabbert
Christian Ponder
Andrew Luck
Robert Griffin
Ryan Tannehill
Brandon Weeden
EJ Manuel
Blake Bortles
Johnny Manziel
Teddy Bridgewater
James Winston
Marcus Mariota
Jared Goff
Carson Wentz
Paxton Lynch

Total: 29

Starters: 12
In the League: 10
Out of the League: 7

Realistically a team should be extremely happy to draft a QB in the first round who becomes an established starter, particularly if drafted after the very early part of the first round (9 of the 12 first rounders who started this past weekend were among the top 3 overall picks).

Tyrod Taylor has been in the top ten in total QBR since he became a starter; I don't think he is a top-ten quarterback but he did sign a $92 million contract and he is the entrenched starter for a winning team.

We (and NFL teams for that matter) tend to think that first round quarterbacks should become pro bowlers, but that's far from the usual result. A team drafting in the first round may "want more than the next Tyrod" but they are more likely to end up with Christian Ponder or Brady Quinn than they are even a Blake Bortles. A first round pick who reaches Taylor's level is an above expectation result.

Heehee. I've heard of a quarterback doing that in an under- center formation and the center snapping the ball straight up in the air. That might have been a story from Paper Lion...

Darn, yet I feel Colonel Hogan will get a very fair shot at some point over the next 2 years.

Re: Hogan in for Cleveland - fullmetal - 10-27-2016

McCown is two weeks from a broken collarbone...and that Browns OL.  Hogan better have his helmet ready.

The plus side is it's Cleveland, so even you and I have a non-zero chance of being their QB at some point in the future.  The down side is it's Cleveland, and there's a reason it's a revolving door.
