Polian was fired as Nevada's head coach. What was his history with Stanford?

In the NFL at least I think he was always in the booth, so he wasn't calling TOs. Can anyone on the sideline beside the coach call a TO anyway?

And now the Ducks make it official:
Quote:Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens announced a change in leadership in the football program Tuesday, ending the four-year tenure of head coach Mark Helfrich.

This is actually a pretty big deal. Oregon has not fired a coach - or hired anyone other than their own offensive coordinator, since 1977. That's 39 years.
I don't think there is another program in the country with anything close to that level of coaching continuity. It has served the Duckies well over this span. I don't think there is any chance Matt Lubick (current Ducks OC) is getting the job - or likely anyone currently in house. It will be very interesting to see in which direction this change in philosophy leads them.

See if Chip Kelly stays in the NFL... ;)

Bruce Feldman moots these names: Scott Frost, Jim McElwain, PJ Fleck, Dana Holgersen, Bryan Harsin, Greg Schiano. Not scurred by that list.

As Stewart Mandel points out, the Ducks' press release really throws Helfrich under the bus:

Interetingly, the statement one gets to from the link in the Mandel tweet does not have those four paragraphs.
Is it simply a link to something different or did somebody at Oregon figure out how bad it looked?

Possibly changed after the fact. Sadly doesn't seem to be on any of the archiving sites I use.

Oof. Helf was recruiting mere hours before the axe fell:

Also apparently Baylor is targeting ol' Sonny:

Maybe, but remember that "sources" are typically agents for the guys being rumored.
Baylor is not exactly in an enviable position for hiring somebody right now, but I'd have to think their fan base would be in an uproar if they "steal away" somebody who has just gone 19-30/10-26 in his current job.

CoachDykes leaving UC would be the best thing that could possibly happen for them. Particularly if Justin Wilcox came back to become the head coach. The best teams in the country feature strong defenses. it will be interesting to see what Baylor decides to do.

Wouldn't that be "accretion by attrition" (or addition by subtraction)?
This might be a bit like Kelly at Notre Dame, where the school has encouraged him to look elsewhere.

That article says that they are turning to Dykes (19-30 at Cal) after being turned down by a coach who has gone 7-17 (Morris at SMU).
I guess Waco really is toxic right now.
