Well, the Big 10 is going to start in 10 min.  MWC as well?

ACC.

But VaTech doesn't seem to be putting up much of a fight...

VaTech going high-beta to try to get back into it... a fake punt and a half-back option. And they score on this drive.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - HisKneeWasDown - 12-03-2016

Another turnover for PSU. Making the CFP committee's job easy (I think).

VaTech forces Clemson to punt twice. Final possession of the 1st half, down by 7. Maybe they can score and go into the locker room tied.

Wisconsin is the team Shaw wants Stanford to be.  Really impressed with how they are playing.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - HisKneeWasDown - 12-03-2016

TV announcers continue to say it's not clear if Michigan or Washington deserve the 4th playoff spot.

I think we need Clemson to lose.

Interestingly CARDboard Pick'em Expert Chantel Jennings thinks UW is #3.

Penn State showing they aren't gonna lie down.  Down 28-7, tied at 28, and now anyone's game.  Finally, a good conference championship contest.

Oh it would be nice to avoid Alabama.

Then again, I believe Alabama is over-rated and I relish the opportunity for UW to prove it.

And they just held Wisconsin to a FG. Yes, turning out to be a good game.

Plus a FG to take a 7 point lead.

Again, announcers mumbling that the winner might go to the CFP.

Really need Clemson to lose... Go Hokies!

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - BostonCard - 12-03-2016

I doubt the committee leaves UW out at 12-1 and PAC-12 conference champions, and wins over Stanford, WSU, Utah, and Colorado... a couple by blowouts.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - HisKneeWasDown - 12-03-2016

Both ACC and B1G games into final minutes w/ only 7 point score difference!

I agree it's hard to move someone down from #4 if they won their conf championship by a wide margin.

But if Penn State wins (and it looks like they will), people will argue they should move up because they won *their* conf championship, their conf is stronger than the Pac-12 (which I believe), and they beat the #2 team head-to-head.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - stupac2 - 12-03-2016

There's an easy solution to this problem: leave OSU out.

Frankly I'm happy with this outcome, it finally gives the committee a legitimately difficult decision to make. Hopefully they leave out OSU which pisses off enough people that we get 8 earlier than the stupidly long CFP contract.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - BostonCard - 12-03-2016

Then they should move #3 Clemson up to #2 now that they won the ACC championship, move UW up to #3, now that they are PAC-12 Champions, and move Penn State up to #4 now that they are B-one-G champs.  The Ohio State University can fall to #5, behind the team that beat them head-to-head.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - TreesAndBirds - 12-03-2016

If I remember right, last year the committee left out a 2 loss conference winner whose out of conference schedule included two teams that were 10-2. Penn State's resume this year seems similar. It's annoying though that Washington played such a weak OOC schedule and will probably get in.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - HisKneeWasDown - 12-03-2016

Watching Sportscenter. Their job is to generate ratings of course, but:

Rece Davis and Chris Fowler and Booger McFarland have Washington at #4.
Kirk Herbstreit has Penn State at #4.

Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread - HisKneeWasDown - 12-03-2016

and I hate this talk about Washington's non-conference schedule. Why isn't anyone talking about Alabama playing W. Kentucky, Kent State and Chattanooga (on week 11?!?!), and only playing 8 conference games (OK they beat USC...)

And Ohio State and Penn State had to play that same stupid Rutgers team as Washington; why aren't there schedules discounted?

Again, people keep discounting the Pac-12, as if beating Stanford, Utah, Washington State and Colorado aren't worth anything.

Last year the committee left out a 2-loss conference champion, but not in favor of a team from their same conference that didn't even win their division and had lost to them head-to-head.

Stanford being left out last year was unfortunate, but the other four conference champions were deemed to be more deserving. Ohio State being selected ahead of Penn State would be a horrible precedent and a direct contradiction of the committee's stated criteria.

For me it should be 1) Alabama, 2) Clemson, 3) Washington, 4) Penn State, 5) Ohio State, 6) Michigan. I see the argument for switching 3 and 4, but 5 or 6 making the playoff would be disappointing.
