Same. My worry is that a number of our recruits are rated for their upside potential than their current playing ability alone. I get the sense that recruiters think Okpala has the potential to be a beast by the end of college but isn't there yet, given how recently he gained all those inches. I get a similar sense about da Silva. My worry is just that they won't be ready to contribute until after Travis, Pickens, and Cartwright graduate. So It's probably going to take a second recruiting class of a similar caliber to get us over the hump. The good news is that Haase is showing he can recruit, and I think recruiting victories build on themselves.

Re: Haase to catch big recruiting break? - 2006alum - 04-09-2017

Just went through all prior ESPN recruiting rankings and it looks like we had the #15 ranked class in 2014 (Travis, Humphrey, Pickens, and Cartwright) and the #18 ranked class in 2010 (with Powell, Heustis (although ironically he wasn't highly regarded coming out of high school), Nastic, and Brown). So we seem to get a top 20 recruiting class around every 4 years. The key will be to break that cycle and get them more than once every four years, because there's not any overlap between them. At least this year our freshmen will come in with a good senior recruiting class, and Cartwright red-shirted so we'll have him another year. But I definitely think we'll need more than one good recruiting class to break the slump.

We also will hopefully have Travis along with Cartwright as I am hoping he stays a 5th year as I believe he should or does already have a medical redshirt year

As far a I can see, March Madness 2018 (and Final Four at the very least) is a given and March 2019 will be a mega disappointment if we do not scrape all of our competitors off the floor.

The first McDonald's AA's were named in 1977 (Magic Johnson was one).

Great story at GoStanford about our incoming MBB class, one of the top-ranked ever for Stanford: #10 by 247Sports, #11 by Rivals, and #14 by ESPN. This is a pretty fantastic feat for Haase to accomplish in his first real season as a recruiter, because Stanford MBB has been off the map for essentially a decade with one brief blip when we beat a Joel Embiid-less Kansas team to reach the Sweet Sixteen in '14. Fingers crossed he can keep the momentum going next year.

I'm cautiously optimistic for next year and looking forward to watching Stanford MBB for the first time in who-can-even-remember.

Wow, I didn't know much about White, thought he was sort of just a guy to fill out the roster.  But wow, 53.6% 3-pt FG percentage!!?!?!  Made 10 3 pt buckets in a 65 pt performance?  Hard to imagine that isn't gonna translate well to NCAA hoops.

This makes the class look even better than I thought last week, so I'm doubling down on my NCAA tournament expectations for next season.  Really hard to imagine that being too high a bar with this class combined with what is already on hand.

Can they play defense and outhustle opponents?  Can they work hard and grow into college hoops-ready bodies?  Can they handle the academics?  Lot of questions need to be answered...but the future is bright :)

I don't believe this has been posted before. Apologies in advance if I'm wrong.

Haase reviews the class.

Great vid. Thanks for posting. It's great to see our recruits in action. When I watch them, I just gotta say that they sure look good.

Go Card Bball.

Good. It sure beats ESPN, which just refreshed their rankings and inexplicably downgraded Okpala 37 to 41 (notwithstanding a jump from 70 to 26 in Scout!), downgraded Daejon Davis from 44 to 57, and our class ranking from 14 to 23. I swear ESPN just doesn't like us - the year we recruited Cartwright and Pickens, they were both ESPN 100 recruits until the very end of the recruiting period, and then were both downgraded to unranked. Given the seeming universal consensus that Okpala is making leaps and bounds improvements year to year, having him drop in the rankings seems rather inexplicable to me.

Some sites don't rank foreign players.  Keep that in mind.

Davis 38 on Scout now

Spent the week in Vegas doing presentations for National Association of Broadcasters (and I urge all cameramen and broadcasters on this board to use Sony's IP Live and Media Cloud Solutions cuz they're all sorts of awesome)

Took a moment at the Hard Rock Casino's Sports Book to get one of these. Now, the only question is if I should spend my $1500 winnings now or wait until we actually win the Big Dance
