Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - oldalum - 05-21-2017

Could someone please explain why the courts can't be covered with tarps while it's raining, thereby accelerating the process of drying them once the rain stops? Or did they do that?

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - fullmetal - 05-21-2017

Now there's a good question.  But hey, it gives Stanford some rest, right?

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - oldalum - 05-21-2017

it does but they still had to get up early anyway because last night their projected start time got moved earlier. No doubt a conspiracy to disadvantage Stanford.

The problem with tarps is that the temperature difference still results in condensation forming under the tarp making the court wet. The only way to really do it is to have elevated tarps with blowers underneath. Wimbledon has this setup in place but they're the only event I know of that does.

Thanks! Though I would guess the condensation would still be less than the amount of water that the twitter feed shows pouring down onto the courts after they were dry this morning, so quicker to dry them out.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - Spiny_Norman - 05-21-2017

Stanford rides a strong showing from #1 doubles Arbuthnott and Davidson who beat the #4 ranked doubles team in the country 6-1.  Doyle and Lord also won 6-1 at #2.  Stanford takes the doubles point and leads 1-0!

On to singles.

PS, any update to the software that will allow re-embedding of tweets?

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - fullmetal - 05-21-2017

The StanfordWTennis twitter account says that with only four indoor courts available, only four singles matches will start.  In the next tweet, the account says that means no #5 or #6 matches...I'm not sure whether that means #5 and #6 just aren't playing right now or that #5 and #6 won't play at all.  We might need #5 and #6...!

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - ColoradoTree - 05-21-2017

It's frustrating to have to play this one indoors. That means we lose the advantage of Higuchi making the lead 2-0 and putting pressure on UNC. Instead, UNC's four strongest courts go first, potentially putting the pressure on us.

But hopefully that doubles point is a shot in the arm for Lord, Davidson, and Lampl. Quite encouraging to see us win doubles so emphatically.  I'm frankly a bit shocked that Davidson and Arbuthnott rolled like they did. Bodes well!

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - ColoradoTree - 05-21-2017

Yeah, the 5 and 6 singles matches will get played if necessary. Courts just have to free up first. Advantage UNC there, though it means that Higuchi might be in position for a rare clincher--she's usually well off the court by the time matches are decided!

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - oldalum - 05-21-2017

Our most likely path to a win from here is to win one of the current four matches and then win on 5-6, but it will place a lot of pressure on our 5-6 unfortunately.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BostonCard - 05-21-2017

Doyle lost the first set (against the #2 player in the country) 1-6
Lampl is down 3-4
Lord is up 4-3
Davidson is up 4-1

If we can win 2, we will be in a great position to win one of 5/6.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BostonCard - 05-21-2017

Davidson won her first set 6-2.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BostonCard - 05-21-2017

Lord up wins the first set 5 6-4; would be nice if she closed out.
Not looking good for Doyle; down 3-0 in the second.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - fullmetal - 05-21-2017

Lord takes it, 6-4.  Davidson is down 0-2 in her second set (won her first 6-2).

Doyle down 0-5 now, eep.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BostonCard - 05-21-2017

Lampl down 5-4.
