Lee just got 3 birdies in a row, Valenzuela and Danielson are playing well; we need one of Aubert and Chou to get a couple of birdies in their rounds.

Only one top ten team--#1 Stanford--in the current top 14.Â
Predicted average score today: 78.8
Predicted final eight:
Northwestern, Stanford, South Carolina, Baylor,
Miami, USC, Kent State, Ohio State

After playing the back 9 of another course in -5, Northwestern found its way back to Rich Harvest and went from a tournament score of +8 to +19 over the first 4 holes of the front 9.

^Best comment of the day.
I suspect we'll see a lot of reversions to the mean today compared to yesterday. Credit to Kent State et al. for a comparatively great scores yesterday, but I still think they benefited a great deal from their later start time.
Current weather: 59°F (15°C), Wind SW at 16 mph (26 km/h), 65% Humidity

Stanford goes into the clubhouse at +33 (+10 for the day). We are currently tied for 12, but one of only 3 teams done for the day. Of the teams ahead of us, only Kent State, Northwestern, and South Carolina are past the halfway point. Five teams 2 strokes or less ahead of us, so we should be fine.

Northwestern and Kent State currently are in position for the lowest and third lowest (after South Carolina) rounds of the day.Â
I can't imagine more than one of today's later starting teams beating their scores or ours (+10), and I'd bet against any of them beating +12.

If Stanford does end up in 3rd after today's rounds are complete, they will be paired with Northwestern and Kent State for tomorrow's final stroke play round. Survive and advance.
But it's tough when you don't have a reliable 4th score. Aubert is usually a steady player. But she has gone 36 holes without a single birdie. Chou has only 1 birdie through the first two rounds.Â

I suspect the course under these conditions is just playing too long for Aubert, who if she is accurate can grind out mostly pars with some bogeys. Chou helped us today to the tune of two shots.
We had the best round of any of the first two groups, I agree we should be comfortably within the top 8 by the end of the day.

South Carolina is at +8 through 14-18 (8 holes cumulatively left to play); we are currently tied with them, but they may have the low round for the day if they can play the last couple holes at +1 or better.

#2 Alabama has been done at +25 for the day and +65 for the weekend. Last place. I don't think any other team will end up worse. Gotta feel for that team...they weren't expecting this.

We are now in a tie for 8th, and we will continue to climb as other teams' scores climb.
Northwestern with the low score for the day (+7), which seems likely to hold. Kent State is falling to earth; they end up +17 for the day.

Not just #2 Alabama; #5 Florida State is in the penultimate spot, +22 for the day; +58 through 36, and #8 Duke is right in front of them (+57, +21 for the day with a couple holes to play). Ouch.

The field is pretty much set--UNC could play their way out (w/in 4 strokes of the cut) with much of their back nine to play--but Stanford should finish third or fourth (assuming UNC doesn't catch and swing the other way).

the whole field has one more round to play before the cut to match play among the top 8.

Would be nice to catch the Wildcats or at least snare the second spot. That would shield us from having to play them until they finals.Â
Northwestern's almost-home-course advantage over us has been dissipating, and should be gone by match play.Â

There will not be a cut today. All 24 teams get to play tomorrow's final medal round. Low 8 teams after tomorrow's play will advance.
Stanford will be paired with Northwestern and Kent State. They will have to send the teams off in two waves again (morning and afternoon). I really don't know if they will send the top teams off first thing in the morning or first thing in the afternoon. Afternoon would be better for Stanford fans since The Golf Channel coverage begins at 1 pm pacific.Â

yes, it would be great for NW to have two chances to stumble before we have to play them (and give us more rounds on the course too). They are a scary matchup for us in that 4 of their 5 players have gotten at least 3 birdies so far in the tournament, and the fifth shot even par today with just one birdie.

Does match play pair opponents in the traditional 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, and 4v5 format? Is there reseeding done between quarterfinal, semifinal and final matches? If not, aren't positions 2, 3, 6 and 7 all set to avoid Northwestern until the final?
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -

Stanford and Northwestern tie for the low rounds of the day (+10), though I guess Northwestern's score includes the 2 shot penalty. Shockingly, three teams fell behind Alabama, Texas Tech (+23 today), Pepperdine (+30), and Oregon (+29). The Ducks are +74 for the tournament, an average of over 2 bogies per hole.
We start tomorrow with an 11 stroke lead over the teams in 9th place.
On an individual level, Lee is in 6th and Valenzuela in a tie for 10th.
