I seem to remember from last year that Lampl was working on becoming a better doubles player with better net play; if she raises her doubles game, we are going to have two very formidable doubles teams.

Agreed on all counts. The last few years, it seems like we’ve had to win four singles matches any time we’re up against another really good team. If Lele pairing Lampl and Lord together at Regionals was a sign she intended to keep those two classmates and friends together, then an improved Lampl would be such a boon to winning the doubles point. (And I’m a big fan of Emma Higuchi, so I’m hoping she and Shin can build some chemistry and make that #3 spot much more competitive than it was last year.)

The advantage of better net play for Lampl is that she can come in behind her big ground strokes more often and end the point right then at the net. So many times her opponent manages a weak-ish return of Lampl's powerful baseline strokes, but when Lampl stays at the baseline she is often not able to take immediate advantage of it.Â
