He could be a kick return specialist.  He neefs to come back another season  and work on that.  ::)

Needs to show that he can be a receiver either in the slot or out of the backfield. He also has not proven to be a very effective pass blocker.
Winflop, that may be what would increase his value, but you can bet if he comes back, he will run the plays he ran this year. That is what makes him most effective at Stanford in the eyes of the coaching staff. That isn't going to change. There won't be a "Bryce Love development program". It wouldn't be fair to the other players. He knows that, so if he comes back next year, it will be to run the ball.

I don't think this is quite right. Love has shown he can catch the ball during his freshman year but injuries have prevented Stanford from adding more of his receiving skills into the offense in the last two years. As a freshman, he had his role as sort of a third down back with a couple of well defined plays for him (screens, reverses and some misdirection). Those are probably the main plays he practiced. As a sophomore, the idea was to get McCaffrey and Love in the game at the same time but they never were really healthy at the same time. So there wasn't time to add these sorts of plays. When Love was healthy, McCaffrey was hurt and Love had to run just the bread and butter Stanford run plays.

I think the same thing happened this year. Shaw has shown in the past as each season moves on, he starts to add wrinkles to the offense. He was unable to that this year with Love because he didn't practice at all during the second half of the season. I'm expecting / hoping to see some receiving wrinkles added to the game tonight.

So I believe if Love comes back and stays healthy for most of next year, he'll be incorporated much more into the passing game.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - washingtonismoney - 12-28-2017

I dunno if Love was much of a “receiver” freshman year — at least not in the McCaffrey-ish sense. As I recall he caught a bunch of screens and turned them into big yardage. Which is hardly BAD, of course, but different than suggesting love is a multitalented dynamo whose versatility is being wasted. Of course if Love wants to return and hone those skills, I’ve got no objection.

Dalton Schultz is leaving after this year (at least that's how I interpret this tweet).

He just had a month off and was obviously still hurt.  The combine is two months from now.  Is that enough time to heal so that he can blow the doors off?  Does he need to be healed to blow the doors off?  Are NFL teams worried about this injury?

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - BostonCard - 12-29-2017

Yeah, I had pencilled Reid in as likely gone as well.

My guess, no. These high ankle sprains take a long time to heal.

Hard to say. Stamina isn't important in the combine, but raw speed will be for Love. The real question is, is it worth the risk and what are the other strategies? My opinion, based on nothing, is that if Love comes back, it will just be because he wants to, not because he has some idea it will help him in the draft a year from now. Too many variables and risk factors to really know if returning will help.

Obviously, I don't know, they don't keep me informed.  :) Unfortunately, there isn't a lot Love can do about it if they are concerned. His size is already an issue, so injury just adds questions.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - dabigv13 - 12-29-2017

He cut his thumb and kept running on a twisted ankle, hardly enough to consider him injury prone, which is mostly a BS concept since so many injuries are just chance and not correlated.

I think his toughness stands out much more, and I bet NFL teams noticed his production while not 100%, which is probably where a lot of NFL players operate.

In any case, I think Goose is right that if he comes back it won't be related to trying to go higher the next year.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - Hurlburt88 - 12-30-2017

I think Shaw is connected enough to get a sense from NFL teams if Love needs to run or not.  Some teams might feel his speed is proven, making the combine sprint less of an issue for Love than others
