Garbage time, but Lacie puts us over 100.

I've been very impressed by Brink. She's long, quick and so skilled. Great timing on her shot blocks. Nice to see some Jones/Belibi/Brink lineups.

Honest question: have we ever scored 100 points in a game when we needed to score 100 points to win? Or is it always garbage time?

So was Belibi. Incredibly balanced scoring today. Six players in double digits; all five starters with at least 14 points. Four players with at least five rebounds. Twenty-five assists on 40 made shots; six players with three or more assists.
We were sluggish in the first half and had a pretty piss poor second quarter, but it was a beautiful second half.

That's impressive. 51 rebounds, with no one getting more than 8.

I am guessing that Tara's teams haven't given up 100 points very many times, so, probably not.

Impressions:
1. The second half was a whole lot more fun to watch than the first. We wound up with 6 in double digits, and all 12 of our players scored. ALL TWELVE SCORED. I can't remember either of those two things ever happening since I have been watching.
2. Our free throw shooting was 79%. That is a massive improvement over last year.
3. Turnovers were only 10.
4. 25 assists on 40 made baskets--outstanding.
5. Our only downside was mediocre defense. In the first half we left the perimeter open too much. In the fourth quarter we were so far ahead that we seemed to have eased up.
6. The biggest concerns coming in were Williams's and Lexie's offense. But they both came alive tonight. Let's hope it continues.
7. Any opponent looking at this box score will be terrified. All five starters with 14 points or more. There will be no scouting report defense against that.
8. 22 O-boards certainly helped. The rebounds were nearly even at the half--we got much better at rebounding in the second half.
9. I am becoming a Brink believer. Really excellent tonight.
Now on to USC and UCLA next. Our first genuine tests.

Not 100, but Stanford has won 98-95 and has lost 98-102.

This team has now scored more than 100 points 3 times this season. For comparison, Stanford had only scored over 100 points twice over the last NINE seasons. The last Stanford team to score more than 100 points 3 times in a season had two Ogwumikes on it.
I think the high scoring has something to do with the style of play. For example, Haley Jones slashing leads to a lot layups for herself or a teammate. And it has something to do with the depth of the team. I would say this is our best "playing in the fourth quarter in a blowout" team ever. That would be Van Gytenbeek, Jump, Emma-Nnopu, Jerome and Prechtel.

I'm going to keep saying it, I love Brink's game. Her and Haley Jones remind me of LeBron and AD. Jones is a do it all player, can score, pass, rebound and defend. Brink is a guard playing in a post's body, at 6'4" she moves so well, blocks shots and covers so much ground defensively. Offensively she can shoot from anywhere so you have to respect her outside game, which makes it much easier for her to attack the paint as well. She also grab a lot of rebounds above replacement due to her height and long arms. Those two have 2 more years after this year together in eligibility...

checking the 1990 national championship team, which scored over 100 points
9 times, one of those wins was reasonably close: 105-91 over #6 long beach state.

I do not - have raised "baseless speculation" previously, and no need to discuss further. We'll just see how things play out.
The depth on this team is remarkable.
There were some spectacular assists tonight: (i) the pass from Haley to a flashing player for a layup in 1H was one; (ii) Lexie's Q4 underhand scoop to a trailing Belibi was another, and I even liked Brink's 1H pass out to the three point line for a trey (IIR the sequence correctly).
Speaking of Brink, she is very skilled and an impact player. You can see why she is getting good PT.
The concerns about Ki and Lexie were probably a bit premature, though the latter's shooting % still isn't great.
Lastly, congrats to Tara. I've said that the Race to the Summit was overblown, given that the all time wins leader will be a years-long battle between Geno and Tara - both will blow by Summit's total. Still, someone had to pass the Tennessee Legend first, and I'm glad it was Tara. Geno and UConn get enough love from ESPN and the MSM, it's all right to give Tara some time in the sun. Now, the task will be to keep Geno at bay. It will be hard, given the respective caliber of the competing conferences, but this team will be hard to beat. For anyone. [Though I think Oregon is awfully good and is also a national title contender].
Props to UOP for playing well and hard in the 1H. What transpired in the 2H is going to happen when you're outgunned. And also thanks to UOP for scheduling the game and helping make it happen there for their season opener!

Belibi much improved and Jump the no conscience sharp shooter every team needs in relief.

Look at the
shot chart, Too many layups for me to count points-in-the-paint. 54 points in the paint. 27 points from 3-ptrs, 8 points from other 2-ptrs, 15 points from FT.

Best assist doesn't go down as one in the box score. I think it was Wilson with a behind the back pass to a wide open player... who blew the lay-up. The announcers called it a "coach's assist" because the coach will give it to you the next day on film.
