We're now up to 12 turnovers. Glad we had the big lead at the half. We now lead by 17. They drew as close as 13.

Pair of threes by Kiana puts us up by 19.
At one point, we were up 44-14; WSU has outscored us 35-27 since then.

The final is 71-49. Domination in the Palouse. Brink was awesome, but Lexie and KW led our scoring with 17 apiece.

Well great defense no question about that. 49 points for the Cougars abd the sisters both in single digits
Brink 12 points 13 rebounds 5 blocks abd 5 assists
Of course the 12 turnovers meant we took 11 less shots in the 2nd half

Killer instinct needed for Friday at High Noon in the Palouse. It will be a "Shoot Out" !

1 turnover in the 1st half, 12 turnovers in the 2nd half. That says about all you need to know as to why we followed the best half of the season with a losing half (it was WSU 31 Stanford 27). It also emphatically informs us that we CAN lose to WSU on Friday if we string two of those 2nd halves together.
Kudos to Brink, who really came into her own. 12 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 5 assists, and ZERO personal fouls.
Lexie was also very good today offensively, with 17 points. Kiana's stroke is back, and she hit several treys for the second game in the row and scored 17. Jones scored 10, giving us 4 in double digits.
And defensively, we held CLW to 6 points, the first game all season she has not been in double digits. Superb.
We were 9/19 for three point shooting, including from Jones and Brink--everything works better when those shots go in.
So we did a lot of good things. Turnovers continue to be our bugaboo, though. And that second half should prevent anyone from being over confident going in to the second game.
Good news that we will get to come home after this trip, stay on campus, and play in our own gym. Perhaps that gave the team a lift. They sure looked good in the first half.

I was not impressed with any of WSU's post players. Maybe they will be better on Friday. They need someone taller to compete with Brink.
I felt this was not one of Jones' better games.

That went from the sublime to the ridiculous. WSU did not play well in the first half. They played better in the second, made some shots, which figures because they were ice cold first half, but we really let up second half. I have no idea what it all means for Friday. Can't count on WSU to be that cold from three.
Lexie had a great game, mostly first half, Brink same. We got outrebounded and let them get way too many O boards. I honestly do not know what to make of the Jekyll and Hyde game we just saw.

I was afraid of the let up in the second half and it happened. Our third quarter seemed to be 1st possession - miss layup, 2nd possession - get called for moving screen, 3rd possession - travel. Then rinse and repeat. The only reason it wasn't more damaging is that Washington St was having a lot of turnover problems as well.
Also there was a play in the second half where Brink didn't jump for a rebound (she likely thought there was a shot clock violation) and because of that Washington St got the offensive rebound. She was immediately yanked by Tara. Good lesson to learn for the freshman. who while amazingly talented and had a great first half, still has things to learn.

To be fair to our team, some of the turnovers were mercy calls by the refs.
For instance, that was not a travel by Prechtel. There was even one foul call that one of the home-town announcers admitted was good defense and not a foul.
However, I was glad the refs called some of the heavy pushing by WSU against Brink. I'm sure they'll do a lot more on Friday.
It seemed we weren't ready for the overhead hook passes.
Rebounding was poor. WSU got 40.9% of their OR chances. Stanford got 35.3% despite being much taller.

There were only 8 free throws taken in this game. Talk about "let 'em play." Sure is nice not to have Missy in stripes.

Apparently, Brink had 14 boards.
Forget Ziaire’s triple, it made me look up quadruple doubles!
It’s been done twice by Shakyla Hill from Grambling State (no one’s done it with blocks?):

Fouls are capped at 5 or else I am sure someone would have done it with fouls!
And someone probably HAS done it with turnovers. I think Tara joked about Hailey a year ago when she had a double double and something like 7 turnovers--that she was glad she didn't have a triple double.
But I take it we are looking for quadruple doubles when all four stats are positive :)

Fran got pulled quickly in 1st half, defensively she got faked out 3 times by Wsu. Ashton got pulled after a moving screen call and the non travel. Only been in a minute, pretty tough. It still appears some rules apply only to her

Speaking of freshmen triple doubles, don't forget Brook Lopez vs USC:
18 points
11 rebounds
12 blocks
As for Cam, I think the most impressive part of her stat line was the five assists.

Tara has an in-game coaching procedure that has obviously proven effective over the years. I don't like the idea of a player looking over her shoulder at the scorer's table after every mistake to see if she is getting subbed out.
Having said that, it seems to me Prechtel was better last year than she has been in many games this year.

Brink's last night was fabulous, so looking forward to her development. That stat line for the Wednesday game is stunning, and it leaves out the steal that she had. But what really impresses me about her is how aggressive she is in going after the ball on a rebound -- confidence that it belongs to her and it's going to be hers and she's not going to let the opposing player take it away. She just doesn't quit.

Asked in an interview, "what is your best skill," Brink answered, "my mentality." Something to the effect of a killer instinct.

Sadly Prechtel just isn’t getting into position to rebound or defend the post. She must get more aggressive. She has a beautiful shot but at 6-5 just not a wing.
