I find it hard to get excited about beating a team that we should've beaten handily but needing OT to do it. While it's certainly better than losing to them, it does nothing to inspire confidence that this team will be any better than the near-.500 record of all of Haase's teams

Winflop, that was my reaction as well.  Relief we didn’t suffer the indignity of a loss, but not exactly confident going forward.  If Haase had a track record of winning, you’d just say it was a blip, where we came out flat and Dartmouth played well, but truth be told, this game was probably representative of the team we have, which is not very good.

Hey Coach Haase, try this...

Start Ingraham, O'Connell, Jones, Angel and Murrell. Run EVERYTHING through Ingraham at the high post. If they don't collapse, let him go to work. No one seems to be able to stop him 1x1 given his strength so uses that to our advantage. If they do collapse, he is surrounded with shooters and you can run some screen action on the perimeter to free them up.  Defensively, this is a laterally slow group. So play pack line defense, get off the line, stop with all the ball pressure, take away dribble penetration and get a hand up on shooters. Even mix in some zone. Stop fouling and giving the other team a lot of free throws. No one should outrebound this group.

Use DeLaire as the 6th man like the Jazz use Jordan Clarkson. Run some ball screens and iso stuff for him and let him go to work. He gums up everything anyway in a motion set so now you are giving Ingraham better spacing with the other group and playing DeLaire to his strength as a sheer scorer. Pick a few of the rest of the guys to play roles as subs, but settle on an 8 man rotation. Personally, I would like Raynaud to be one of them.

It can't get much worse than everything else you've tried....

Sure it can. Recall we are currently 6-3, not 0-9.

He's exaggerating of course, and with business as usual we will probably be mediocre like we have in the previous few years.
It would be nice if we could figure out a way to do better.

It whe eight man rotation idea ould be nice if we could figure out a way to do better.

Yes, it would, JR. I like the 8 man rotation idea. We spin around when we insert players willy nilly. And, whatever the rotation, I agree Reynaud should be included. He's limber, can jump, dunks with ease, hits the five foot jumper, blocks a few shots AND makes free throws. Yes, he gets pushed around, but he will learn more quickly than sitting. (Btw, Keefe is better this year because he's not getting pushed around; still inconsistent off. and not an overwhelming rebounder). Maples will continue to be a morgue if we can't become more than a 50-50 team, and we will have trouble hanging on to very good players.

Bet you a nickel that Dartmouth beats Cal.

If I had a nickel for everyone who foolishly bet against my sports takes . . . . . . . . . . . . . (I'd maybe have 15 cents).

Bet on Cal when they take on Stanford. Good coach in Berkeley with a lot worse talent than Haase has.
