McNealy rebounded on Sunday after a pretty bad Saturday to finish T10 and make a nice $200K+ check. Rodgers and Wu had solid final rounds.

T28. Rodgers -13
T56. Wu -10

The men's and women's teams tee off tomorrow in the Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club. Interesting format and competition. More at https://stephenscup.com/

#16 Florida State
#22 Texas

McNealy is going to remember that Saturday round with that awful triple for a long time. Played great yesterday. Don't forget Andrea Lee. She has her first win and 2 top ten finishes in her last 4 outings. Has played very solid golf the last few weeks. Was also nice to see Casey Danielson make the cut.
I wonder which of the men, McNealy, Rodgers, or Wu will be the first to finally win. They are certainly making a nice living without winning.

The Stephens Cup is on golf channel starting at 10 AM I think.

The women are currently in 4th place, 3 off the lead. But the 3 teams ahead of us started on the back nine, which seems to be playing easier than the front nine where we started. We've had no bogeys on the back nine so far; after the same number of holes (3-5) on the front nine, we already had 4 bogeys and a double bogey. Our players are tightly clustered which suggests to me they're doing fine; our team score is not being inflated by a couple of higher scores.

Doesn’t the fact that he came back to have a nice outing Sunday show that McNealy has a short memory?

And, of course, he doesn’t need to make a living from his golf earnings, but good for him.

That is the really hard part of golf at this level, you can't have a "bad" round and still win most tournaments.  He is making a nice income so he probably doesn't need to borrow from his father :)

RE: Stanford MGolf Thread - Spiny_Norman - 10-10-2022

Golf is on tv live on Golf Channel from 1 to 4 Pacific this afternoon.

Vilips shot 66 this morning to lead the field. But he has had to WD for the afternoon. He's having muscle spasms/cramps and cannot swing a club per Coach Ray.

Curious where you got this info from?

Meanwhile, the second round is now fully complete. Stanford remains within striking distance of the second spot for tomorrow's match play final while UNC is running away with it. However, with all four players counting (Vilips is out) it's going to require good play from all of them today.
1. North Carolina -32
2. Florida State -15
3. Notre Dame -13
4. Stanford -10
5. Texas -6

Individually, Thorbjornsen and Brown continue to lead the team and play with greater consistency than they did last year. It's also nice to see Nate Menon contributing.
T9. Thorbjornsen -4
T16. Brown -2
21. Menon +1
T26. Ng +4

Win - they reported this news on the College Central program just before they started the live coverage. One of the on site reporters said that Coach Ray had told him that Vilips was cramping up, could not swing and would not be participating in the afternoon round. But I never heard the Golf Channel personnel mention it again throughout the 3 hours of coverage. No follow up at all. Of course they pretty much ignored the Stanford men anyway. I saw Barclay Brown hit about 2 shots, maybe one from Thorbjornsen and that was it.

Interesting. Whatever it was must have cleared up overnight. He's out there today.

RE: Stanford MGolf Thread - oldalum - 10-11-2022

Good thing -- we need him for match play vs. Texas tomorrow.

Golf Channel expanded on Vilip's situation a bit on today's broadcast. It was dehydration.

RE: Stanford MGolf Thread - winflop - 10-11-2022

Tough finish for the men to not climb up to second but they will still have a good match tomorrow against defending champion Texas. i'm sure they know that if Vilips had played yesterday afternoon they'd be in second.

RE: Stanford MGolf Thread - winflop - 10-12-2022

Good day for the men's team against defending national champion Texas. Won 3 of the first 4 matches.
Ng won 2up over Vo
Brown lost 2&1 to Nome
Vilips won 2&1 over Maas
Menon won 1up over Sosa
Thorbjornsen lost 1up to Vick (match had already been decided)

Menon played pretty darn well, right now he looks like the 5th man.

I gotta believe he was injured, but even if true I'm still bewildered by Greyserman playing at Colonial after he was clearly not up to the quality of the field at Olympia Fields. Well, it's fall season which doesn't count for nearly as much as the spring season so maybe Coach Ray was looking to test his frosh

I was really happy to see Vilips win today. Fully recovered from dehydration. Wasn't clear that he was yesterday.

RE: Stanford MGolf Thread - Hulk01 - 10-12-2022

Thorbjornsen was six-under for 17 holes--and lost.
Some kind of loss . . .

What I especially noted as a positive from today's round is that Vilips avoided the big blow up holes (double bogeys or worse) that have plagued him over his first two years at Stanford. It would be a sign of progress and maturity if he can reduce those big numbers and recover more quickly when he does have a bad hole. He needs to turn 76s into 72s and 72s into 68s.

Also during the fall season, Coach Ray will probably give different players a shot at the 5th spot in the lineup. This week it is frosh Greyserman. The other 4 are well-set with Thorbjornsen, Vilips, Brown and Ng.

I am more optimistic now  about the real season in the Spring.  I would love to see us win both the Men's and Women's titles.  My guess Ray was giving his best incoming recruit a chance.  Unless something happens to Menon, I don't see the lineup changing.

The top 3 spots are locked - Brown, Thorbjornsen, and Vilips. 4 and 5 will be among Menon, Ng, and Yang. The others will play from time to time as individuals if they can.
