Saw that smear on her nice white uniform sleeve! Also just saw some near 42's collar - is  that the same player?

Saw large smudges on at least two different ASU players.

I think that's blood.

The one I saw (on elbow) really looked like makeup. Will edit if I see which player.

...42 has it on her right shoulder. Looks like makeup to me.

...12 on right elbow (back of forearm just above elbow).

Okay, no more of this trivia from me.

Stanford in the bonus halfway through the quarter.

But cooling off. 53% from 3, down from 62%.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Arizona State Sunday 11am - martyup - 02-12-2023

Pretty crappy 3rd quarter.  We only shot 25%, had only 2 assists, 2 turnovers, and 7 fouls.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Arizona State Sunday 11am - mbdude - 02-12-2023

Outscored 11 - 1 last 4 minutes

At 5 minute mark 4th qtr losing  half 31 - 24. Lost some focus

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Arizona State Sunday 11am - martyup - 02-12-2023

Kiki is flirting with a double double.  12 points and 7 rebounds.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Arizona State Sunday 11am - CompSci87 - 02-12-2023

Missing bunnies and free throws in the 3rd. Oh well...

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Arizona State Sunday 11am - crackpot - 02-12-2023

Foundation watch: 42's right shoulder and 12(?)'s right elbow. Thought I earlier saw even larger smudge on someone's left shoulder.

Maybe she fell into the cheerleaders.

Come on Fran, slam it!

Brink only played 12 minutes, but had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block.

Agnes with 16 points,  leading scorer for the Card. She's the 9th different player for Stanford to be the leading scorer this season (others in addition to Brink, Jones, jump  -- Betts, Demetre,  Prechtel,  iriafen,  lepolo). So happy for her!!

RE: WBB: Stanford 96 -- Arizona 64 - TheWildJacko - 02-12-2023

Great win. Awesome play by all—notably Hannah, Agnes, Lauren Betts, Fran and Indya. Oh and Kiki quietly having a great game! Obv. Haley and Brink played well too—not so much in terms of scoring from Haley, but 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks is significant.

Apologies for the minor nitpick 3 pages into the thread, but shouldn’t the thread subject read ASU rather than Arizona?

Fixed the subject line.

Thanks! I was checking out the new posts on the AZ thread and then went back to the main thread page and got confused for a moment until I saw the scores.

A whole lot to like in this game, but with all the cautionary notes about ASU being an overmatched team with all their tall players out with injury.  Even so, we actually did not play quite as well this time as when we had them at Maples--but it turned out to be a very similar game.  In both of our games we dominated until substitutions and lack of intensity in the 4th let them narrow the lead a bit.  Not atypical of blow-out games.

Betts has really come into her own, is playing with more poise and confidence.  It was nice to see both Betts and Iriafen hit at least one jumper from the elbow.  We won't always have the gigantic height advantage we had today.

Emma-Nnopu was fabulous.  Here is hoping that this will inspire her to shoot more often and more consistently.  With her defense, if she could score 17 ppg she would be a starter.  But 5/6 from long range...oh my.

Who could have predicted that we would score 96 while Jones 1/8 for 2 points. She did a lot of other very good things, nice to see our offense truly diversify.

Skinner did even better against us this time than she did on New Year's eve.  We still don't have the ability to really defend her.  Thank goodness ASU has only one of her.

Now we will really see how much we have improved, a rematch with USC coming up Friday 8:00.  They have entirely different personnel than either Arizona or ASU and can match up on defense in a way those two teams cannot.  So if we can handle them and get our offense cranking, it will be a good sign that we have made progress.

Haha, funny that wasn't noticed earlier! Fixing it.

Beat you to it.

I didn’t realize that ASU is winless in the conference.  Brutal.

Four more regular season games, all four against winning teams, three of the four are ranked.  We are playing two teams tied for fourth (with Arizona) next week, then go to Utah (tied for first with us) and Colorado, who is in third in the conference.

This stretch is the acid stretch.  I am hopeful that Tara has figured out our offensive issues, late in the season.  As you point out, we have 4 tough games, but none tougher than the 4th, which could be for the league championship.

And then it is likely we will play 2-3 of the upcoming 4 teams all over again in the league tournament.

RE: WBB: Stanford 96 -- Arizona State 64 - chimera - 02-12-2023

I almost don't want to analyze or think much about anything that happened after the half, the game was the big a mismatch.  Congrats to Emma-Nnopu for her career high, being game high scorer, and her best three-point shooting game of her college career.  I don't think this game tells us much except that what we have seen evolving, the blossoming of Betts and Nivar, has continued.  Nivar is becoming a real ball hawk on defense, and is not longer fouling so much.  She runs the floor very well and has been consistently playing well.  Betts has come into her own, which has big implications going forward.  She is now someone you have to get into games, and against teams with good posts, she will be a real asset.

I don't at all worry about Skinner getting her points.  Her shooting percentage was bad and she mostly scored against our bench when the game was no longer in doubt.  The last quarter and half got a bit sloppy.  That doesn't matter much.  What matters is the good ball movement has continued, the younger players continue to improve, and the defense was fine when it mattered.  The outside shooting has come around with Jump back in her best form, Emma-Nnopu having herself a heck of a day, Demetre hitting, Precthel hitting, Lepolo hitting, etc.  Good to have the confidence in their shots for the stretch run.

RE: WBB: Stanford 96 -- Arizona State 64 - Spiny_Norman - 02-12-2023

The closing stretch is not only 4 games against top conference opponents, it's 4 games in 9 days, including 2 at altitude. A real test for their preparation, depth and stamina. I'm glad that USC is first. The team will be freshest for that one.

RE: WBB: Stanford 96 -- Arizona State 64 - martyup - 02-12-2023

Skinner types are going to get to the free throw line often so long as refs keep allowing them to jump into defenders when shooting.  There is nothing a defender can do to avoid being called for that foul.

Another good performance by Betts.  I'm glad Tara is bringing her along slowly.  Betts has to prove herself at the DI level to Tara and her teammates.  It takes time.  I will enjoy watching Betts as she gradually evolves into a dominant post player over four years at Stanford.
