Washington just took down Oregon State, leaving USC(!) as the only team within a game of Stanford.
USC just lost to UT. Does that clench the Pac-12 regular season for the Cardinal?
The game is still going for me. Stanford should clinch at least a share of the title with a Utah victory today - which seems like it's happening.

USC just lost to Utah, 74-68, leaving a logjam of teams with five losses behind our three.

Okay, so all we have to do is beat Oregon or OSU to win the conference. Right?

USC does indeed fall, so Stanford will end the weekend with a two game lead on a bunch of teams tied for second. There will be at least 3 teams with a 11-5 record at the end of the Colorado-UCLA game tomorrow night, with Utah sitting another game back at 10-6. The seeding for the tournament could be a doozy.

Iriafen had a fantastic game, despite her many missed bunnies. She had 22 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 turnover, and was 4-5 from the FT line.
Harriel, Agara, and Demetre also with strong performances. Harriel is our new sharpshooter from downtown. She shot 4-8 from beyond the arc.

the lineup of harriel, demetre and jump on the outside and brink and iriafen on the inside is hard to defend. pack the paint and you have 3 good 3-point shooters killing you.

A rough shooting game from just about everywhere (3-point line, layups, free throws). We won this game because of offensive rebounding. Kudos to the whole team but especially Iriafen and Agara.
There was a lineup where Tara went really big. Harriel at the point with Ogden at the 2, Demetre the 3, Agara the 4 and I think Iriafen at the 5. Would be interesting to see that next year and see if we can invert and post up Ogden or Agara if she has a smaller defender on her.

Game stats. Cam with 7 assists kind of sticks out. Five players scored in double digits. Cam has turned into the kind of warrior Jayne Appel (Martinelli) once was. Kiki with a phenomenal 20 rebounds.

"Win the conference" in this context means "get the #1 seed in the P12 tournament." That's the main reward for winning the regular season. And that is a nice position to be in!

Well, that was a nice way to get the dark cloud from Friday night out of Maples....
1) No chalk talk today, but a knowledgeable person told me that Lepolo has been nursing a meniscus injury for some time, not serious enough to stop playing but hoping to get through the season before surgery. It could be that it caught up with her on Friday night and she had to rest it today. Your guess is as good as mine whether this means she could be back this season or not.
2) The senior presentations after the game were touching. Brink noted that she was aware the fans want to know her decision about whether to come back next year, but she demured. However, she gave a very emotional speech thanking the staff, the players, her family, and the fans. She may honestly not have decided, but clearly she would not have been so emotional if she had definitely decided to stay. Jump's speech did dwell some on how happy she was she came back for a 5th year.
3) Wow, that first quarter had me worried that we had not shaken off the Friday night blues. As with Friday, our defense was acceptable but our offense was not at all in sync. The second quarter was much better, and the second half was a mixed bag. It was not a dominant game, but it was a win, which is more than we can say about Friday.
4) Brink was clearly not back to 100%. Her speed was reduced, her energy levels lower than usual, and she missed some shots she would normally make. The box score shows 4/9 free throws? Was it really that bad? And 5 turnovers. No, we did not have close to 100% of Cam today, but even a little bit of Cam was enough. She blocked 5, scored 14, dished 7 assists, and changed the flow of the game in our favor. She was indispensable, even at half strength.
5) Another superb game for Iriafen. 22 points and 20 rebounds, and most notably 6 O-boards.
6) I believe this was Harriel's first start of her career. 1 assist to 1 turnover, but 12 points on 4/8 three point shooting. I had heard rumors last year that she was our best pure shooter--and she looks the part when in game. But the disjointed offense in the first quarter seemed to reflect some growing pains as the team adjusted to a new point guard.
7) After Friday it was clear that we needed to diversify our scoring, and Harriel certainly helped, but so did Agara! Agara scored 11 points in 13 minutes on an efficient 4/5 shooting. If you leave out her one attempt from outside she was 4/4 and also had 4 O-boards. She is the perfect clean-up machine inside. A long three point miss from a teammate might as well have been an assist to Agara, who was always in position to benefit.

We clinched at least a tie when USC lost, so the trophy plus player hats and t-shirts were handed out as soon as the Utah/USC game was over. We all got to watch the closing seconds on the Maples scoreboard video screen.

To win the conference outright, i.e., no co-champion stuff -- also to clinch a #1 seed in the Pac-12 tournament -- and it's beat either one of them Both would be icing on the cake.
In the presser, Cam said that she was about "60%" in this game, had had flu all week. She also specifically said she was undecided about coming back, and acknowledged that she was aware of a possible bid from the new Bay Area WNBA team if she stayed a 5th year. But she would be happy to go wherever she wound up.

The presser:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjenXEkr6h8&t=6s
Tara:
"I don't know that we played an "A" game today but we did what we needed to do."
"Jzaniya was the story for me....This was a statement game for her, and I'm really proud of her."
"Hopefully Talana will be back, we have to wait and see....It wasn't an injury but it was bothering her and she wants to have it evaluated, and she will have it evaluated tomorrow."
[In the last game] Kiki was undercut and she slammed her head and had a little whiplash. We are really conservative at Stanford and I think that is good. Kiki was checked out and they cleared her."
"They [ASU] basically said 'You gotta beat us from the outside' ...We have confidence in our shooters, I don't think that plan is going to work."
"Honestly, I feel that we bring out the best in every team we play."
"Nunu had 4 O-boards, and that is what we have been begging her to do all year. Use your big strong body, get in there!"
Cam:
"I'm still undecided whether or not I'll come back next year."
"I'd say I'm about 60%. I had the flu. It's not just me, it's hitting everybody hard."

Watching the end of that game with a couple thousand of my closest friends and the Stanford team was probably the most fun I've had in a long time. Kudos to whomever made that decision.

Yes indeed! A USC loss is not quite as satisfying as a Stanford win, but it comes close. Any time the Pac 12 traitors go down and we benefit from it is particularly sweet.

Glad I flew in from East Coast for the weekend — not sure I felt that way Fri after UA game but today was a blast. Now on to OSU and UO next weekend. Psyched! Feel better, team!

I hope Tara gives more playing time to Harriel and Agara, they showed flashes of brilliance, Harriel for her threes and taking care of the ball. Agara for her offensive rebounds and tough scores under the basket.
Tara tends to stick with her dependable players like Talana and Brooke. They are both great players, I appreciate both of them, but Harriel and Agara really showed how they can step things up both offensively and defensively. Also would like to see Ogden play more.
